This is my 1962 Legnano that I'll be riding the 122 mile route with. It is a veteran of L'Eroica Britannia.

I do not plan to attend instead opting to go to Cino Heroica up in MT. I have been following the discussion on CR list and am turned off by some of the onerous rules.

rootboy, it would be cool if you were to join rhm's ride. The rules will be more relaxed. I don't even think he will be having inspections of the bikes, unless you consider ogling them to be an inspection..

The bicycle rules read pretty straightforward and have direct comments on the use of Alan frames and Exxon Carbon frames too. Reasonably accommodating.
I have not decided on what bike I will bring to ride. Most likely I will ride the middle length route. 122 from 100 miles is probably not wise for me, so it goes.

Then you would be turned off by the rules in Italy too? Elsewhere it has just been posted by the California event the modification to the rules for California, where there is a state law regarding the wearing of helmets by those under 18 when on a moving bicycle. They encourage the use of helmets by the adult participants.

I am going to try to make it, although I have a flight to catch later than evening. Might depend on the start times (@EroicaCA: Have the start times been set?). IF I go, I would opt for the 65-mile route and ride my '72 Cilo Pacer, though I'd likely ride with a different/tubular wheelset.

All that said, the two L'Eroica events I have ridden have been the most enjoyable organized events that I have ever attended, regardless of the "onerous rules". They were the absolute highlights of my 50 years on a bike!!!

I am definately set on the long route.
I may change my mind, but I have been thinking that it would be appropriate to celebrate by riding something from an American master.
1977 Bruce Gordon. I got it in a trade back in 1981.
It was repainted by Bob Freeman's shop (R.I.P. Elliott Bay Bicycles) about 4 years ago.

THANK YOU to Wes and whoever else is involved in making L'Eroica California a reality! This is gonna be fun

Yes, very cool tires. Also, where did you get the long cage for the SR derailleur?

I started this post to see what people are thinking about riding in our event and on which route.

BTW, you're invited, but I think you'll be otherwise occupied that weekend.

4 of us have booked a place to stay, taken the time off from work, and plan to ride the 40 mile event. So far, our bikes are a pre-85 Univega Competizione, 83 Univega Superstrada, and a early 80's Nishiki Mixte. The last bike is being looked for, the rider is trying to find or duplicate their early 80's racing bike. We're all so looking forward to the event after seeing some of the preparation for the 2014 Italy event in Gaiole.

It seems there are hundreds of sponsored rides (maybe thousands) where you can ride pretty much any bike you want. The whole point of the Erocia is it's different; if it did not have the rules for the Erocia, than it is no different than any other ride. From your signature it appears you have already done all the heavy lifting and have well over a dozen (in ascending order) qualifying bikes; what is it that is so onerous that would prevent you from riding one of your C&V bikes in such a ride?

The chance to ride among hundreds of rare & beautiful vintage road bikes appeals to me.
I'm hoping to be there with my '85 Olmo Firenze, a $25 thrift store rescue with the original Galli group. I'm hopeful 28mm tires will clear & I can fit a 27t or 28t rear cog. Pedals & wheels will change from those in the picture. I will probably ride the 65 mile route.

Not really sure, but he is not happy about our rules. Please leave him alone. He is entitled to his opinion and he has the right to say whatever he wants. We have our rules and they are meant to be followed. If he is not happy with any of the rules he can simply choose not to come.
