This week's nor'easter reaches far enough inland that it impacts us here on Lake Ontario.

I'd already decided that I'd take the bus today when the email arrived: The library is closing at 2PM. My shift starts at 1:30.

I'll burn a half-hour of vacation time.

So my bike commuting track record will remain unchanged at 100% for the year-to-date, and somwhere around 185 consecutive workdays since the one day last March.

I've already done my Federal taxes. Maybe now I'll work on the state. And laundry.

Sigh. I work for myself, and I can still ride to my studio even if it's slow going through the snow. So no snow day here. Took half an hour to dig a path to get my bike out to the street.... so glad I don't have to dig out a car!

20 inches of snow here. Work was "work from home if you want". I cannot get anything done at home, so I rode in. The two block stretch where I had to ride in a single tire track, and kept sticking a pedal into the mound of snow next to the track and coming to a stop took as long as the rest of the ride, which was largely over sort of plowed streets. I'll take the long way home, over really plowed streets.

but no snow day for me, my office is still open.

i took the train to work; path of least resistance.

Took an hour just to shovel a path to the street from the house and my driveway is not that long.
Snow drifts past my waist.
I was surprised to see the bus was on time.
I know what I will be doing after work when I get home.

My company only closes for the more dire blizzards. So after 7+ inches of snow, they didn't officially close, but most of us are working from home. The local school districts called the day off, though.

GAH! I'm jealous! Everyone is getting pummeled with snow and here in Minneapolis and parts north we have almost none! While it's been a lovely easy to deal with commuting winter, there are a lot of winter recreation options and it's economic benefits around here that rely on snow. This is very unusual. My city got close to 8 inches (20cm) of snow since yesterday. I rode my fixed gear with 700x38 studded tires at very low pressure and had a great time.

My only excuse for not riding in today is it's a recovery day from 60 gloriously warm and clear miles in the San Gabriels yesterday.

J/K, I think your route isn't as snow friendly as mine. Roads were bad, but doable.

Same system as us, we got a bit more this time though. I've been riding my single speed conversion mountain bike with 26x2.125 studded tires at regular pressure. Plowing through just about everything and having a great time.

I discovered at lunch time that my back tire was flat. I know it wasn't flat when I left home., but I'm not sure how much air there was in it when I got to work. It was a slog...

i have no idea if my route is less snow friendly than yours, but i have such an easy train commute to work that some days (like when we get 20" of snow) taking the train is just the easier route to go. the vast majority of days, riding a bike to work is the easiest route to go, that's why i commute by bike the vast majority of days.

i'm not like some of the more OCD BF bike commuters who take a lot of pride in the fact that they ride their bike to work every. single. day. no. matter. what. (tornadoes, floods, tsunamis, hurricanes, blizzards, polar vortexes, lava flows, and comet impacts be damned). i commute to work by whatever mode makes the most sense for me on that particular day. most often that mode is by bike. occasionally that mode is the train. and, rarer still, sometimes it makes the most sense for me to drive (but that's only when my wife doesn't need our lone car).

I'm off the bike today too. I wish it were for a blizzard. Instead, I got hit by the flu.
