Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why do you believe compact chainrings would help?

Today I rode 51.3 miles from san jose to palo alto and back, the weather was 57F this morning with light winds, then halfway through the ride it rained hard with very high winds up to 15 mph or so. There was 6 miles of muddy trails that slowed me down and added an hour extra to my ride, also my bike computer took a crap after 39 miles but i know how many miles it is round trip. And i fell three times heading back on different surface and injurying my leg, not to bloody though. My derailleur got messed up from the falls, i still need to fix that. I was soaked inside and out. Also my debit carded didnt work at the 7-11 i go to get powerbars, it took a signature to work. All in all it was a bad day. End rant.

Today I rode 33.2 miles using the Guadalupe river trail and san tomas trail, the weather was 54F sunny with light winds. The second underpass was flooded 2 ft deep but passable. My bike computer came back to life and works now and i got the deraileur to work with 90% of the gears. Still no flats.

I saw three stray cats and a cute bunny rabbit. My saddle started hurting me at about 60 miles in to the ride but it wasnt to bad, i think i can do a full century on this new romin evo saddle if push me self.

Today I rode 62.7 miles from san jose to palo alto and back with some detours. The weather was 46F-66F through out the day with sunny skies and light winds. I fixed my deraileur and cleaned my bike, and lubed the chain. It was a great day for biking.

9 miles this morning in 17° sunny weather. Was great to get out and speed through hard packet snow streets before the snow started coming down again.

Well I rode 22 yesterday with strong winds. It started out about 60 degrees then dropped at least 10 degrees. My sweat started freezing me. Lol. Just starting to ride again after 45 days if not riding due to sickness and getting my new bike built. Oh well I am going to hit it hard this year.

Today i rode 36 miles using the Guadalupe trail and the san tomas trail with a few detours, the weather was a bit colder this morning at 39F with sunny skies and light winds. At the sunnyvale park i got to see some people fly their RC helicopters and planes. My bottom bracket is started to crack and pop under torque, so i need to look in to that.

Today was my 76th day of riding in my basement since I stopped riding outside in October. And no end in sight.
So completely jealous of your guys out west, and to a much lesser extent, those living in Florida and Texas too.

Today I rode 74.3 miles from san jose to Redwood city and back. The weather was 41F sunny with no wind. I passed by Facebooks New HQ in menlo park, they are almost done building it. Also i did this ride on three chocolate cliff bars and four water refills no lie 750 calories in and 2200+ calories burnt. It was a great ride.
