Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I'm 26 this month, so 10 years of mustaches.

As far as what that board is, called a Freebord. Basically snowboarding on asphalt. random vid grab:

I was only messing with you about the dickduster. Its none of my beeswax how long you've had it, or why. I was just kidding.

The freeboard, at first appeared silly to me, but that video is pretty cool.

Cleaning lube off with a rag. Spinning the wheel backwards and the rag caught between the chain and cog and went through, as did my thumb. Rag must have been wrapped around my hand or something, no time to react and off went the tip of my thumb.

My chains tend to stay dirty now.

So far the NSFW in the title of this thread is wholly unwarranted

Not that I need to see anything worse than that thumb, mind you.

Haven't had many good ones. This was from a while back -- hit an uneven crack in the road and got tossed, gave the Earth a nice People's Elbow. It swelled up to about twice that size if I remember correctly.

about 5 years i wAs flying down western trying to make it to critical mass. ignoring the single car parked on the right (red flag) i neglected to give space for the door. door pops open when im about 6 feet away. combination of leaning + bar input resulted in losing the front. bike went down, i flew forward chin first into the pavement.

picked up my bike and sat on the curb to collect myself. ppl got out and came over to my aid. my chin was bleeding a bit and looked down to see more than i expected collecting between my feet. a lady was asking if i was ok, which i assured her i was. jokingly i asked how my chin looks.

"you need to go to the hospital."

i insisted no one call an ambulance (pricey) while i called my gf to pick me up. 3 hours and 8 stitches later i was bandAged up playing poker at commerce. lol.

the injury was HIDEOUS with a flap of skin hanging. glad i never had a pic taken.

the bike was toast. a good kink in the downtube right behind the headtube lug. the wheel wouldnt even clear. my hands were scuffed and in pain for days. my chin felt fine.

moral of the story. wear oven mitts.

I wouldve though moral of the story- always ride about a good 1 1/2 feet away from the car.

Thats my biggest fear riding in NYC some idiot opens his car door without bothering to look. In my old neighborhood thats how one kid died, he went down and a car ran him over.

Ive had quite a few accidents in my life, nothings serious though. The most serious one was me going the wrong way down the street, and coming up to a intersection where a car can make one turn which is towards me. In the end got clipped in my shin, and went down. Nothing serious, had a big bruise.

ive been doored, caught the edge of it right in my collarbone, finished the rest of my 100km ride and proceeded to have an enormous black and blue and pain for a couple weeks

not exactly looking forward to repeating that interaction with steel.

in retrospect i may have broken it, ive had a lil nub on it since then

=[ glad u guys recovered fine.

i was fortunate enough to not collide with the door. phew. ive had at least a half dozen examples where i would have been doored if i neglected the buffer zone, which ive learned to respect.

I was hauling ass to the 4th checkpoint in an alleycat, going downhill I hit a walkway curb that I wasn't able to see (it was dark), I got launched and landed elbow first into the corner of the other curb. I laid there for a good 30 minutes screaming and cussing like a maniac. When I finally stood up I felt something fall back to place (or out of place?) on my elbow. Since I was able to move my elbow with hardly any pain I never went to get checked, the swelling moved to my whole arm then it turned purple. Then slowly started regaining its original color and size.

This was quite a while ago when I first switched to fixed gear. Muscle memory had me thinking i was still riding SS. When I went to coast I ate **** because you know... the pedals kept going. Didn't take a pic of my thigh or knee which were also bad.
