Zwift - Not sure it's for me
I finally got my invite and gave it a try... Now I Think I am going to die. I took about two weeks off of riding due to losing a parent. But jumped on today to try out Zwift. No way can I keep up with these people. Not really sure I understand the hill part. It says my cadence is really low, but I know it's higher. but maybe thats part of it. All I know is after 20 min of riding, I am going to sweat to death and had to stop. Clearly I was pushing much harder than I am use to doing.

Oh it is... The thing is super cool. I recommend everyone get on the beta. I like TR because i have to follow their training plan. but for fun... I am all bout it. Just wish I didn't kill myself after 20 min and need to stop. I wonder how much this program is going to cost once it's out of beta. They talk about doing training sessions also which would be really cool. if you could jump on TR like training with other real people based of personal fitness levels.

been riding zwift since christmas.
You have to be realistic about what it is currently. If you have a zone 1-2 day planned and need time and miles, it can be fun. If you have a specific distance planned, say doing a metric, it can be fun. If you want to get on a simulate a fast group ride, where you hang on and push yourself, it can be fun.
If you need to do x power for x minutes it will make you crazy.
Way less boring than TR to me, but way less useful for specific everyday training. Bottom line to me is, if you want to just get some miles in and not be bored, its great, if you want to do an hour at race pace, its great, if you want to train, use trainer road.

I've done 3 rides on it so far. As it stands right now, I think I prefer Sufferfest/Trainer Road combination. The 3 mi loop is tedious, but, show me a 10-20 mile lap course, and that opinion could change. And I think it will change, and only get better. It's got lots of potential for sure.

I think the developer picked that dinky little island just because it's at the equator and it makes the math easy for positioning. I'm sure they'll roll out more courses...
What a great concept though for the indoor cycling crowd. I saw vesteroid do that track back in January or december and thought he was on some spectacular vacation.

Hey Salreus,
The key to using Zwift is NOT to be pulled into keeping up with some one else or those blue bots, they will just run you into the ground. Just do your own thing and follow your training plan. That's what I do. Yes, you will have to do a lot of gear changing to stay in your training zone but that's the idea. Where I'm from it's a flat land so I really don't have to change gears much (or at all) so I really like the course. It's great when it's raining outside and my plan calls for a 1.5 hr ride, I can just hop on and get a great sweaty workout just by doing my own thing on Zwift.
I say keep at it!

I can't pass that Elk or Deer but once and think how good it would be with a nice plate of broccoli, bacon and fried taters. Perhaps a nice vesteroid box of red wine with that as well eh?
For me, they would have to make it a longer loop

my guess is that it does not matter to them (in beta) about the number of routes. They just want to get things working. Once it all works nicely, then they can add routes all over the world with virtual ease. I would love to see them offer routes from tours...how cool would it be to simulate a ride in the alps.
I know wahoo has the segments app that does that, but no video to go along with it, and no other riders pushing you.

This has really helped my weight loss and training, as of late, i have not been riding. I get home from work and its dark and cold, until this week. I don't feel like getting all dressed up, air in the tires etc, blah, with zwift, i have it hooked up to the big TV, i get it going, ride in what ever and off i go. sometimes i do push myself too much going for a goal or trying to have with people, but most time, i just get on and ride for an hour and flys by. I liked the sufferfest videos but after 20 minutes i was bored. I love riding zwift, i have it set up with a wahoo kicker from christmas, so the roads up and downs change resistance as i hit them. changed my world.

I am finding more ways to train with it, in its current form. I had a leg strength session last night set up, so I simply dropped into my highest gear and ground up the hills each lap at 55 rpm Since they changed the direction back the hill is shorter but harder. 5 laps of that, and I was done...just did easy the rest of the laps.
still only level 7 getting ready to turn lele 8 so not like I ride zwift a lot.

Now i am hooked, I rode outside today after riding Zwift, indoors for two weeks. I nailed more PR's then ever before. I really think it has to do with the fact that i ride with a wahoo kicker and with the program you never really stopped peddling, so when i rode the rode today, i never stopped spinning to coast, i just kept turning pedals non stop. needless to say my average MPH went up and i hit PR's without even trying, i was just on a cruise to get a bagel for breakfast.
