Getting my mom set up on my wife's old FX 7.2...she has arthritis in her wrists, so we swapped the stem out for a 25* rise and some wider bars, and I picked up some Ergon grips for her, then fiddled with the seat position... she's much happier. 3 miles with her, then 13 around the neighborhood while she made everyone bacon and biscuits. Time well spent

It's easy to have firsts when you're just starting. I'm on a good plan for me right now so we'll just see how well we can keep it up. Consistency will be the key. Appreciate all the helpful advice and encouragement.

I just started a year ago so I remember all my firsts. Sometimes I ride by a destination that used to seem so incredibly far away and I smile as I remember how great I felt the first time I made it that far. I'm still having firsts and I hope I never stop having them. Keep up the great work!

The kid partied too hard yesterday (too much ice cream and junk food), so she wasn't feeling too well today. I managed to sneak out while she was resting/watching a movie for a solo 20 miler. Felt faster than usual, despite the humidity, got buzzed and honked at by an old couple in a pick up, so I raced to the upcoming light to catch them and give them a piece of mind, sure enough I ride up to the passenger window and my father reaches out and says "Mike.. that you? What the @#$% happened?" Ironically this being father's day, I haven't seen or spoken with my Dad in the last 10 years, although we only live about 25 miles apart.

Finally found some more hills to do in a reasonable time frame. Was able to do 18 miles and 1064 ft of climbing today. For a ride that took about 1:23, this isn't too bad for pre-work exercise.

I added Cottontail Rd in Melville and did Avery Rd both ways along with doing the East bound run of Sunnyside Blvd /Expressway service road which was being bypassed when I first added Avery. I was really hit hard by the time I got to Cottontail and had to stop about a dozen ft from the top.

It felt really good.

Looking forward to hitting this ride more often. I can still feel the effort in my legs. Feels even better knowing I can do this much after only starting this January when I was struggling with 3 miles.

Goal: 400 miles; 8,000 ft climbing

6/3 12.9; 473 ft gain
6/4 10.9; 416 ft gain
6/5 17.8; 589 ft gain
6/7 44.9; 754 ft gain
6/8 11.6; 288 ft gain
6/9 14.8; 549 ft gain
6/11 16.1; 717 ft gain
6/13 63.3; 1998 ft gain
6/16 12.9; 676 ft gain
6/17 15.1; 699 ft gain
6/18 13.5; 654 ft gain
6/22 18.0; 1064 ft gain

Total: 251.8 miles

Total elev: 8877 ft

Made my climbing goal for the month and got a route requiring 59.1 ft of gain per mile!!!

I've been taking advantage of the available overtime at work for the last couple of weeks, (an extreme rarity at my office), very much to the detriment of my cycling time. Not a trade off I'd like to make month after month, but for now I'll take it.

Unfortunately, it's starting to look like I'm going to fall short of the month's goal, though.

June Goal: 180 miles. Stretch goal: 200 miles.

6/1 - 5.8 miles
6/3 - 13.4 miles
6/6 - 14.2 miles
6/7 - 17.3 miles

Monday is weigh in day for me. Two week weight loss is a total of 3#'s. Today I added another 27 miles to my month ride total. I was at 100 miles in 4 days this month when I started riding again. But it is getting harded to pile on the miles, as it is very hot in the early am hours. Monsoon season is here, average day time tempetures of 110 ++.
