Can you clamp onto a threaded fork or does it need to be threadless?

There is not enough steerer length unless you have an unusual ammount of spacers between the adjusting cup and the locknut. Even then you would be clamped onto the threaded portion which is the weak point. If you are wanting to use a threadless type stem on a threaded system you can use a quill aapter.Otherwise you need threadless fork,HS and stem.

The fork is of a larger frame so the lenth is there. If I clamped down on it half of the surface would be threaded & half would be bare. Would it work?

That's acceptable,but you still have to use a threadless headset.Or you could shorten that fork,cut more threads and use a quill adapter.

The clamped part of the threads could have a cutting effect from road vibration and cause the clamp to eventually fracture , not good, go threadless.

I have a king headset & was going to use the adapter kit they sell.

I'm goin to go to the local shop bring the fork & see how a stem bolt on to it. Just to see if it will work. If this works I will be spending about $150 & not $475.

I don't know what your point is here,but threadless CF forks can be had for $100,assuming you aren't screwing with some mtb srtup.
