In the book My Days with the Diesel, by C.L. Cummins he describes the drilling of an Indy Car frame he oversaw and how they had to throw it out after as it was too weak.

There's a similar story about Colin Chapman removing one tube at a time from a space frame.

I always liked that RD and the other parts in that article done by Gladys Hopkins. So nice and clean for the day. Wonder what ever became of her?

Help, I'm sinking into the abyss. Gathering up my pile of junk Suntour Cyclone stuff and want to go drillium. The thoughts are really evil too. Going on a rough condition but sweet old Viner frame + aluminum fork.
Anyone have pics of Suntour delirious drillium?
I found this image from fleabay but not exactly what I'm after. Thinking more of milled or slot work. I also have some forged SR stems. Perhaps some 'groovy' grinding for them??

I am so happy I have a 99 BIS like that! In my top three of most beautiful cranks ever made. I have it thanks to a member or two on this site. One of them asked my address, but wouldn't say why, A few days later one them showed up at my door. How cool is that!,,,,BD

Here's a nifty Campy FD on a ca 1970 bike I am currently holding in facilitation for another member. I'll let him share the full bike, but I thought this was a nice surprise.

Some components came with factory drilling (e.g. Campagnolo Super Record brake levers, some Stronglight chainrings, etc.), but mostly I think of drillum as post-production user mod.

If that was installed and ridden, I bet my bottom dollar they're pushing up daisies now

Stronglight had a model with drilled rings, Huret had the drilled Jubilee.
What I find interesting is Campagnolo presented the Super Record group with Black anno rings, but they were not seen in production.
Others jumped in and Campagnolo did not.

Thanks for sharing. I'm new to the derailleur mill and drill work but planning on starting with a rough and corroded 1st series Cyclone (mid-late 70's). Current weight is 176 gram. Have a complete shift group and will do those parts as well. Still examining it and undecisive of what to groove or maybe drill. Did you make any holding jig's or just improvise?
