So my guess is they had somebody drive them over the bridge - Narragansett is the logical drop off place and I predicted they'd be here for a while. Where was the trailer? Did he ditch that?
It is curious how he always makes a point of saying he's drinking water, and he probably does but... I'll bet he's drinking tons of coke to go with it. Frankly, I don't care what he eats, but it is very amusing to read the defensive posts from his defenders on his face book page. "He exercised today, he's burning it off"
As if standing next to your bike counts as exercise.
Regardless, any distance more than 5 miles a day is probably beyond those two right now anyway.
Still not buying it.

No, you didn't. This forum is a place for people who are seeking supportive attitudes toward their weight loss. We do not appreciate fat-shaming here. We are perfectly aware of our issues and don't need anyone mocking us on our journey.

Exactly. I responded to Jack's post quoting me but I've deleted it as apparently it's being reposted by Mr. Hite's cheerleaders and I am being lambasted all over again. He's posting that I am "bitter." He does not elaborate what it is he believes I am bitter about. I have been a favorite whipping girl of his.
Isn't obesity hilarious?

Yes I've been writing about it for a decade, published a book, and work as a consultant and certified trainer for people who need to lose 100 lbs or more. I'm part owner of an online weight loss program for very overweight individuals.
I knew he was a moron when he bragged to me about the excessive weight of his trailer and how he was all set for his trip because he had some Gold Bond and Beachbody shakes. He has rebuffed every attempt to offer him advice that would facilitate a real ride. He told me himself in a phone conversation that doing a cross country bike trip after losing weight wasn't a good story.

Maybe this thread needs a timeout, to give tempers time to calm down.
Yeah, that's exactly what we need.

I'll start with the positive. Some videos of the dude actually riding and making progress.

Hopefully this is the start of a long trend. I would love to cheer his journey if he continues.

What I would most like to see, is some of the BF members - whether in the clyde/athena group or not - go out and ride a few miles with Eric and his wife. Not only would that help confirm that they are actually doing some riding, but it would be a great positive way to provide some support.
I'm still a skeptic, but that short video at least showed he is capable of riding.
Haff - I hadn't seen that second vid of them both riding. Thanks for posting that.

I said it because prior to that video there was no proof he had actually ridden a foot Siu.
And while there are obviously people of his size who ARE capable of riding a bike, I doubt EVERY person of his size is capable of riding a bike.
I"m done with this thread. I hope he keeps going, and that some of you are able to go ride a few miles with him.

If I can figure out where he is and if I can gt out there, I'll go ride with him. I'm in NE Connecticut, and I don't have the ability to ride long distances myself due to bad gear (big old too heavy bike) and previous injury (spinal fusion) that effectively left me with one functional leg and no muscle in the other leg that just comes along for the ride. If he can try to ride across America, then I can try for a century someday- hopefully next year.

I can't decide who is driving, him or the trailer. You see that with trucks that are too small pulling campers and I stay wayyyyy away from them because I have seen the aftermath, pictures of it anyway. I cannot imagine that rig in a good cross wind once he gets out of town into the great wide open. The winds here can be brutal, and especially the transitions from being shielded from the wind by something, then riding out into it.
There is just no way anybody NEEDS all that crap really.

On a trip such as this, I'd imagine the biggest challenge would be where to camp. It seems FGAA is out of condition, and so cant really plan where to camp because he wont know how far he can go.
I know if t were me, Id want to get out of the populated areas and hit the open spaces - if not for camping opportunities alone.

I'm glad to see that they are actually riding. At least they stand a chance of accomplishing the ride.

Im glad thread reopened. I too hope they succeed. Noted they were riding on sidewalk when there appeared to be a good bike lane available. I hope they get comfortable soon with riding on the road because they are going to run into places where there aren't sidewalks.
I asked him how far they rode yesterday and he said 10 miles in answer which made sense based on distance from Newport to Narragansut (Sp?) Good for them.

ok 3 things:
Glad they're riding!
Glad that others on his Facebook are working out, since there are so many that are doing something positive for themselves I think it is more important then what ever those 2 accomplish!
And lastly, probably contrast to most... I hope they stop at the first place they find over say 10 miles... pushing too hard the first few days are how most people at the gyms I've been to end up sabotaging themselves.... What really matters is they can start again the next day...

As for 10 miles yesterday, they couldn't have ridden across the bridge, so 10 miles is probably an overly optimistic estimate. Still, who cares, they're moving.

+1. With all the smoke he has seemingly been blowing, 50 seconds of video doesn't demonstrate much in the grand scheme of things. When you lose my trust you have to earn it back with more that something that could easily have been set up. Show me your camp. Where is it? Where is her sleeping bag and mattress? Show me the dinner you cooked for yourself. Tell me where you started riding, where you ended up and the route you took in between.

One thing to consider is the time element. At 10 miles per day he'll need almost 300 days to make the trip. Even if he doubles to 20/day, that's still 150 days or 5 months, meaning that he'll be finishing about Christmas. That's not impossible or even unreasonable if he swings south with the birds and might even be beneficial. But it rules out visiting folks in the midwest on the way.
Hopefully, and giving him every conceivable benefit of any doubt, he can work up to 30 miles per day fairly quickly, and if so, it's a 100day/3 month trip that he can finish before it gets too cold.
For my part, I remain skeptical and will wait to see what happens in the coming weeks.
