So I saw. That behavior will have to be tailored for each area. Russian drivers seem to have less lane discipline and drive more aggressively than Americans.

I read recently that they are using algorithms so that the car computers actually "learn" how to handle human behavior and anticipate. for exaqmple, they won't blindly follow the laws at four way stops, but will handle them more like humans do. I also read that these self-driven cars actually have more computer power than the newest jetliners.
Twice I had the same experience that I stopped for a car that was coming from my right, the confused driver hesitated, then started forward, only to have to jam on the brakes as a cyclist coming from behind me blew through the intersection. Driverless cars are going to be as befuddled as that driver, since cyclists are more unpredictable than motorists.
They also say that overtaking cars give a wider berth to cyclists who look inexperienced, are riding upright bikes in a skirt (the "Mary Poppins effect") or don't have a helmet. I wondered if that will be programmed into the driverless car algorithm? It's hard to believe they will "learn" to distinguish among these different cyclist types.
