Yeah, but couldn't the user just make sure the motor isn't on until after the check (like right before the race)? I'd have to imagine there are remote controls for these sorts of things, but then I don't know anything about them.

Even without the motor on, there's a whole lot of copper inside your downtube that shouldn't really be there. Put out a signal, detect how it comes back or gets changed. The batteries are also pretty easy to detect, they have to be relatively big to be useful.

That was good thinking. They'll never look there.

wko 4.0 was finally released for windows, and now I finally have a CTL over 100!
Something got screwed up and everything was duplicated during the import from 3.0..and I have to delete all of my activities..which is annoying

May start VO2 tomorrow, Moody Tuesdays reborn. If I can handle it. I intend to hit 100 CTL this week, then hope to just hover there, maybe get up to 110 but probably don't need much more.

It was, but full of errors.
They said that the rider was forced to withdraw after officials found the motor, that's the biggest error I saw (and it was the headline).
"Bought the bike from a friend". It was the other way around, she sold it to a friend (that's her story anyway).

Maybe some kind of "density tester" to check the frame tubes. Like a studfinder for finding the 2x4 in the wall.

The burden of proof is different in this case. As I understand it, under UCI regulations it is the responsibility of the rider to have a compliant bike, if they do not, they are responsible for it.

She claimed it was placed in the pit by someone else right? She hadn't ridden it during the race at all and her personal bike was clean. What do you pin that on?
Like many of the UCI rules it’s not very well drafted. “Technological fraud” is defined as a non-compliant bicycle when it comes to propulsion and everyone knows 12.1.013 is “the motor rule”. It’s worth noting the emphasised points underlined in red:
the mere presence of a bicycle on the margins of a race is sufficient for a ban. If a bike with a motor is found in the pits or fixed to the roof of the team car that’s enough, it doesn’t have to be ridden in competition
liability falls on the rider and the team alike, each “must ensure that any bicycle they they use is in compliance”. Does anyone do this? Should a rider disassemble their bottom bracket and hubs just before a race and put a wax seal on them for assurance? Of course not but the rules do place the burden on “ensuring” the bike is appropriate. Also “team” isn’t a defined term either so it’s unsure if the Belgian team are at fault here or the Kleur Op Matt – No Drugs women’s CX team

Penalties should be associated with the acts alone. It is too difficult to make the UCI have to figure out intent all the time. If the rider makes it look like an accident, they let it go, if not the rider is labeled a cheater and other cheaters suggest they are banned for life.
