Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Have you tried "pressure-cycling" your face, followed by baby oil soaks? That helps stimulate hair growth.

I've tried the pressure-cycling but not the baby oil soaks. Will do that tonight.

My wife met me when I had a goatee. The stupidest facial hair phase I ever had the lack of brains to try and pull off. I'm embarrassed when I see old pictures of me. At some point I have it up and went clean shaven for a while and was married that way. Less than a year into being married I grew a beard for a small play. After I shaved it off for the first time, my wife looked at me and said "That doesn't look right. Grow it back." That was about 9 years ago and I've had a beard ever since. So I had a beard way before it was the "in" thing to do and I will probably have one long after it goes out of style. Mainly because I'm too damn lazy.

So looking at all these crazy MTB build has me revisiting websites like Velo Orange and Rivendell. It also reminded me of how much I dislike Grant Petersen's smugness factor. Then I look at someone like Ultra Romance on instagram. He's probably gotten more people into building up old MTB's into touring and adventure bikes than Petersen ever has simply because he doesn't bother writing manifestos on the evils of Big Bike as much as he just says "Hey, look at how cool all these stupid cheap bikes can be!" He just builds up whatever, rocks platforms over clipless, and tours all over the place generally enjoying himself and showing how fun it is without looking down on you for spending 3K on a fatbike plus 1K in bikepacking gear. He even has some Rivendell frames and has probably been a better salesman for them than Petersen ever has.

Sorry. With the mention of Petersen, this thread will likely spiral into insanity in short order.

This is almost creepy it's so close to my experience. We celebrate 10 years this summer.

I do get annoyed with the beard when it gets long enough to curl into your lips while eating. That's when it gets trimmed back with my electric trimmer and the cycle begins anew. It's like controlled burns in a forest.

I'm so lazy I'll just trim up the hair above the lip and leave the rest 2 or 3 times. By the time I get around to trimming the whole beard, it's mega long and the neck hair is longer than what I trim it down to. So damn lazy.

You're relatively close to me in age, I think, how old where you when you got hitched? We got married at 27 which was almost 3 years ago, but we were young compared to a lot of our friends who are just now getting engaged and such.

Luckily the 10 year thing makes math easy. I was 23 because I'm 33 turning 34 in Sept. Definitely early compared to most friends, but not compared to some of her Mormon friends.

Mumonkan could surely speak to the ins and outs of long beards when he's back from his adventures.

Beards on older guys make them look older yet. I grow a beard every Fall for men's health awareness and after I shave it off, everyone tells me I look 10 years younger. I've noticed that on friends my age, too.

Just get a malleable mustache wax and start training the hairs to grow to the sides rather than down. That said, you're still bound to get a mouthful of hair when you eat things like pasta and other slurpy style foods.

I would if I weren't so lazy and hairy. I usually do if I'm riding a lot outside, so I haven't recently.

The missing link here is that he PM'd me a proposal before I posted that, so my post about my prior wedding was probably a little shocking.
