A new Personal Best (for my 80s)
Today, after a few days off I averaged 13.5 mph on a 22 mile ride. Have not done that for several years.
Must have been the time off coupled with the slightly cooler temps. Have been averaging 11.4 so it was quite a pleasant surprise.

My speeds are in the same range as yours but now and then, for unknown reasons my asthma subsides and I get stronger as the ride progresses. Several times each year I can hold 18 and even 21 MPH for a good part of a 30 or 40 mile ride.

It's been damned hot up here in Maine.... 87-degress with a "feel like" of 92-degrees ! 5 miles was enough for me today.... but I'm only 70. I do average about 14-15 mph... this isn't Florida... we have hills ! I'm looking forward to a break in the heat and a green lawn !

If I can still be doing this in my 80's I'll count myself so fortunate. Keep it up, and I love your signature quote. Gonna have to read 'Taming the Bicycle'!

In 2010 bought a new Trek and installed a computer. Think I used to pretty much ride in the 11 to 14 mph range. Did club rides for a few years and then felt it was getting too hard to keep us with the younger folk and their carbon bikes (mine is all aluminum). 14 mph was exceptional. Usually prefer long rides and not much into speed. So, at 81, 13.5 is pretty pleasing although I am sure there are others who are much faster.

Living as I do in Los Angeles, my ride speeds are somewhat determined by traffic lights and stop signs. Most of the time, no matter how fast I try to ride, I'm limited to about 13 mph, unless I want to chance breaking the law and losing my life, and I prefer not to do that.

The point (IMHO) is everything or anything we do is good. Riding hard, or easy or not at all.
