Here's my Sannow Eminenza with Superbe brakes and levers, Cyclone FD, and Superbe Pro RD. Hype or not, paired with Simplex Retrofrictions the shifting of SuPro is absolutely perfect - smooth, effortless, and accurate every shift, I like it better than anything indexed, except for Dura Ace and Campy Ergo stuff.

I had a couple of superbe groups. One was the first indexed group from 87. It worked great for me but I traded it to go Campy. The person I traded it to always complained about the poor shifting.
The second group was an older friction generation. The front dérailleur snapped in half.
I guess I just found the Superbe stuff a little soft compared to Campy or Shimano.
My groups were both well used when I got them so who knows.

I think the last version of Superbe Pro is that perfect gracefulness- despite what's said I've heard it referred to as "jewelry."

I have a Superbe Pro front and rear derailleur/shifter set, along with a set of the hidden spring brakes. I'm missing a cable pinch on one of the brakes, and I ended up stealing the adjusters for an older set of Superbe brakes.

The really nice Gran Compe, SR Royal, Superbe stuff has that beautiful satiny sheen to them.

My Superbe CB-3200 dualslots from the 1980's.
They were pretty scratched up so I removed the anodizing and gave them a good polishing.
Just put these on the chopping block.

I'm in the process of finishing a 1982 Trek 614 build with Superbe components. Just this morning, as a matter of curiosity, I was looking at the vintage-trek site to see which model Trek was putting Superbe on and it led me to that 760. I love that color scheme.

I think those are the exact brakes and levers I have. My crankset and derailleurs look different. I think they're from 1984. I've even got a Superbe Pro seat post and headset. Apparently no one told the original owner of the donor bike these were on that complete groups weren't a thing.

What I don't have is the pedals.

I never had Superbe derailleurs. Used to look at the full group every day on our Fuji Pro's, 1977 but rode and raced last year's Cyclone equipped Pro (for less than 1/2 the bucks). Those Cyclone RDs were as good a fit to the then current technology as any derailleur ever made. Sweet shifting with the old, clunky full width 3/32s chains on 5 and 6 speed FWs. I've used those Cyclones up through 9-speed. (And despite the very reliable shifting, there were about as light as RDs ever got.)

I now have Superbe calipers set up on my flat road fix gear setup. (Flat road vs mountains, ie, not climbing HBs, etc. Dropped HBs, NOT flat.) Nice brakes to ride, really fun to work on. (I pull or remount them every time I switch handlebars. Two to four times for the week of Cycle Oregon.)

Yeah, those Superbe Pro pedals go for a premium, especially if they are NOS. When I bought the 760, it had some Wellgo pedals on it, but I put some Suntour Sprint track pedals on it. They're really nice, but I would still love to have the Superbe Pro pedals.

I rode the same bike with Superbe Pro from 1984 until this season when I got a few more bikes. Everything works great and I never changed a brake cable, derail cable or brake pad. I did break two front derails. The arm is weak and I've concluded you have to be ginger on an upshift to only put as much force on it as needed and no more. If you happen to jam the lever with a heavy thumb while hitting a bump, that might be when it breaks.


The brakes and rear derail is flawless and front derail shifts perfect and seems to last if you're careful.

Did Suntour make Superbe front derailleurs with built-in cable stops?

If not, did Suntour have different quality lines of clamp-on cable stops? Some of the ones I see look pretty crude.

Don't hold me 100% positive but believe they did. Same for Cyclone. If you dig thru the Disraeli gears archives and Japan Suntour catalogs / scans, it may show them. Also, Velobase is a continuous update site but not shown are the Cyclone with cable stops (or maybe the other way around). Anyways, I do have both versions.

As nice as some of this stuff worked, they do have some fragility. The cast clamp hinges are prone to fracture, later version have the steel band type.

Two contributions here. I originally built this up with Superbe Pro and later tore it down and built it with Superbe. I like the look of Superbe better on this frame.
