So, what's under your bum?

The Giant Connect saddle that came with my Anyroad was ok for the first 7 or so miles but became annoying after that. After checking reviews on about a gazillion different saddles I decided to go with a Brooks B17 in blue and have enjoyed it from the first ride. So what are the rest of ya'll riding on?

I am a big fan of the Brooks B17 for the past 10-12 years. They just fit me well.

I have WTB Speed saddles to be a cheap and all weather substitute.

I use a Brooks B17 for my daily commuter. My Raleigh Competition GS has a Brooks Professional. My Falcon has a Brooks Swift Racing saddle. The same for my new Marinoni Sportivo Ti except the saddle is made with titanium. I upgraded the plastic seat on my NOS Raleigh Sprite with a Brooks Flyer Sprung saddle. Eventually, everything will be Brooks.

I’ve had problems with seat pressure against my hamstrings and perineum since I was road racing 50-55 years ago. The Brooks B17 hurt both. The Brooks “Swallow”, which I settled on and used for 10+ years, relieved the hamstring problem. I then managed the perineum difficulty by swiveling the nose of the Swallow to the right about ¾” and placing my male parts to the left; many competitive riders have done the same (left or maybe right), and, many more have not ‘felt’ the need.

I now ride two Adamo “Prologues” and one Cobb “Randee”. The Prologues completely eliminate the perineum discomfort; I can ride them all-day in this regard. However after six or more miles, I begin to feel strain and then pain in my hamstring tendons. The Randee completely eliminates hamstring discomfort but presses a little too much on my perineum area.

I do most of my, local, riding on the Prologues because they take a little longer to become irritating. The Randee works well for 10-mile+ rides because of its complete lack of pressure on my hamstrings while the perineum pressure is only irritating. I look forward to modifying this saddle to lower the bumps at the nose.

A combination of the Randee’s aft section and the Prologue’s nose would be ideal for my needs.

I believe that very many of us have similar problems and it is good to see that the industry is beginning to address them.

Praise to John Cobb and his pioneering work along these lines!

On my gravel bike, it's a Brooks C17 Cambium and, on my road bike, it's a Brooks C13. B17 comfort, but weatherproof and with zero break-in period.

I've ridden as far as 160 miles without a break on the C17 and got off the bike not feeling as if I had been on a bike at all. My backside was about the only thing that still felt good!

I find Specialized Body Geometry saddles comfortable. Even better - Selle AnAtomica, the most comfortable saddle right out of the box I have ridden thus far. Brooks B-17 a close second! MHO

An ISM Adamo Prologue on the Colnago and an Infinity ?? on my hybrid. Haven't seen any Infinity saddles like this one since I bought it back in 09. It's comfortable and does the job but I don't usually ride the hybrid for more than 20 miles. My new Colnago will be getting another Prologue (now know as the PL 1.1) when it arrives. I've been riding on a Prologue since mid 2012 and unless something better comes along, won't ride anything else. I tried a Brooks B17 and it was the most painful saddle I ever sat on. Even my OEM saddle felt better. I guess my undercarriage just isn't cut out for Brooks saddles.

After trying several saddles I've found the Specialized Body Geometry saddles seem to fit me. I have three models: a Phenom on the Colnago, a Romin on the Ciocc (much more stretched out riding position) and a Toupe on the around-town Batavus. To be honest I'm not crazy about the Toupe, but it was cheap.

No bums in here, just me and my cat.

At the moment, what's under my rear end is a pillow on the chair.

All my bike seats are vintage Troxels and it's two thin, two cushy but firm. All are fine usually, everyone gets a sore butt now and then.

Two Regales and a Rolls. Life's too short to ride cheap saddles. I don't think I'd like a Brooks.

Agreed on the giant saddle - it's ok for up to about 90 minutes, then not. I left it on the winter commuter for now.
For all day type rides I have a B17 which is great.
Go fast bikes have Specialized Toupe and Avatar.

I ride an 81 raleigh team pro and for several years kept the original Cinelli Unicantor. But started to have some persistent saddle sore issues and switched to a Selle Italia Superflow earlier this year. Had some mixed feelings about going to a modern saddle, but I'm really glad I did. My butt is much happier.

I've tried all kinds and brands of saddles during the past 16-1/2 years. I'm "getting older" and have been riding on a Selle Anatomica X series on both of my bikes for the past 2+ years. Very comfy.

I don't know the brand, but the one that came with my 2008 Giant FCR ('flat bar road bike') is pretty comfy on long days of touring.

Fizik Arione. Going to try a Fabric Scoop Ultimate soon.

How do you brooks guys deal with the ugliness?

@oldandslow2 has the right idea. I wonder why they put "CARBON" on the rails, kinda like the people who put "MUSTANG" across the front windshield of their Mustang in case anyone wasn't able to tell it is a Mustang.

Specialized Avatar (Ti rails), since 2010. One on each bike (road and mountain), two new on a shelf in reserve. As long as they last, I've no need to consider anything else.

My bum is pretty tolerant of saddles. Most decent modern saddles work just fine. Currently, the two main bikes I ride have some sort of Specialized things on them.

That said, I tossed my Brooks saddles in the trash back in the late 1970s when quality modern saddles became available. I've never regretted that decision. I can tolerate a Brooks for an hour or so, but after that it just won't cut it; too much perineum pressure for my liking.

I was amused when the folks who do the Path Less Pedaled videos admitted that they have also given up on Brooks. It gets a lot of hype, and I'm sure it's a fine choice for some folks, but many more people have moved on from them than have stayed with them long-term, at least among the riders I know.

fizik Aliante on all of my bikes. Not sure what I'll do if one of my saddles buys the farm, 'cuz fizik just discontinued that model recently.
