WTB: Help me outfit my 1967/68 Flying Scot for Eroica
That's right, I need to buy pretty much an entire group, wheels and extras to outfit the 'new' frame I bought from Scotland. The frame is a rider, not a show bike. As such, I am not looking for NOS, just good quality, functional items. My preference is Campy but Flying Scots have lots of other manufacturers hanging on them so I am open to other items (the rear drops are Simplex). I would like to stay within 5 years or so of the time period but I would be fine with components outside that restriction as long as they look the part.
Headset - prefer the stronglight but would be open to something else
Top tube brake cable guides - need three
Water bottle cage and downtube tube clamps
Crankset - Decided on standard double. Looking for a Stronglight, vintage Mavic, vintage Specialized "flag", Campy SR/NR or Ricthey Logic. Prefer 175mm but they are pretty much impossible to find so I would be interested in 172.5 or 177.5
Brakes - Center pulls (Mafac Racers-long version) or side pulls. Front needs to have 61mm reach and back 65mm reach.
Brake levers - looking for something near the late 60's early 70's.
Freewheel - 6/7 speed freewheel with large cog around 32
Rear Deraileur- a Suntour V-GT long cage
Pump- appropriate pump
If you have something that could work let me know.

This doesn't have a tab so you need a claw derailleur? Or is the derailleur hanger just cut out from the picture? This is a cool frame and project.
You could always run a huret allvit, cough, cough.
That keeps you in the 60s but I'd run a suntour vgt luxe which is like early 70s.

My apologies for being imprecise on my previous post. I was asking whether the bike has an integrated derailleur hanger or not. It doesn't look to have one so you you'll need a claw and my vote is to go with suntour. I'm not sure what was available in the 70s but the suntour will have them beat esp. when looking for gearing to climb hills with.

Tough timeframe to go high end on any reasonable budget. Campy stuff is crazy, Simplex hard to come by and other stuff doesn't work. I've got a 70's Huret Challenger drivetrain (RD,FD, band shifters) that's actually an decent wide range performer. Find a Stonglight crank, some Mafac CP's and you're in like skint, er Flint.
Huret Challenger derailleur (2440)
Oh yeah I've got a triple TA chainset (170) but 175's are around.

Id go Campy Rally for the rear, Simplex up front. Stronglight or TA triple. Weinmann center pulls, Mafac levers. Titan Stem & bars. Strong light headset and the earliest Phil Wheels you can find. That fattest Gran Bois tires that'll fit in the frame. Build it once, do it right and you won't have to think about it anymore. BTW Thats pretty much the exact build of my '72 Jack Taylor.
Good luck at Eroica!

I have a simplex prestige FD still new in the package, and a GB forged stem and bars. Likely also have an Allvit RD, and some Weinmann center-pulls, mafac racer center-pulls... saddles from brroks, wright, etc... we should talk, haha.

What about going with a Campag Valentino "pill box" front derailleur as it's got a cable stop built in. It's quirky and works fairly decent. Then maybe do a matching Valentino rear. Being that they were base model derailleurs it's not going to break the bank and they'll look the part also and function decently for how crude they look. Haha.

I think I have that Campy front derailleur that Henry III mentions. Let me know if you want it. I also have pieces of the Valentino rear.

The Valentino front is not a terrible derailleur; as Henry says, a little funky... but once set up, it works pretty well. And it looks very much like the classic Gran Sport (it's slightly improved).
The Valentino rear, in contrast, is a terrible derailleur. Avoid it.

Come on Rudy as I gave it a more positively "quirky" description then terrible. 😅 I honestly like that older lower end Campag stuff as people toss it aside like a red headed stepchild. The Velox, Valentino and Turismo rear d's are awesome little pieces. Wait awesome is being a little over overzealous possibly. Plus you can find them normally pretty cheap because they don't say Record on them.

I'm interested in the valentino FD; I'll send you an e-mail. My gran sport FD broke and this looks close enough for my purposes.

Given that the OP needs a whole lot of parts, I'd be hunting around for a donor bike. I picked up a raleigh super course recently with a bunch of really nice top end old school parts. Sold the frame and kept the parts which included a TA triple crank, wheels with campy NR hubs, Dura ace long reach brakes, Shimano crane RD, a campy NR headset and seatpost. The frame didn't pay for the parts but I got the parts at a very large discount to their price individually.

Since that bike is late-60s vintage, you can feel free to use parts that actually work - such as the Suntour derailleurs mentioned a few posts back.
The V-GT is a good choice as a long-cage mech. Pair it with a suitable Suntour front mech and some ratcheting Suntour bar-end shifters (ok for Eroica), a five-speed mountain freewheel setup from Pastor Bob, and a suitable triple crank (Sugino or TA) and there's your drivetrain.

Another good choice for the RD is Nuovo Gran Sport. Not actually the right era, but it looks like it is. Shifts as well as NR, IMHO.

You need to show the jewel before you get the suitcase... https://www.flickr.com/photos/758367...h/32497660581/
You could use center pulls, you just need the hangers to go with them.

I'll have check but I think have some Ballili, is that right, calipers somewhere. No pads, mountain hardware, well the bolt just no washers or nuts. If they'll work you can have them for postage.

Thanks everyone for the PMs and such. The one item that is eluding me is the crankset. Anyone have one that would fit the bill?
Crankset - Looking for a Stronglight (49d, 99), vintage Mavic (not the starfish but rather the square one), vintage Specialized "flag", Campy SR/NR or Ricthey Logic (silver not black). Prefer 175mm but they are pretty much impossible to find so I would be interested in 172.5 or 177.5
