Call me the breeze
I keep blowin' down the road
Well now, they call me the breeze
I keep blowin' down the road
I ain't got me nobody
I don't carry me no load

Thomas, that was a real nice declaration
Welcome to the present, we're running a real nation
Would you like to join us, or stay mellow
Doing whatever the hell it is you do in Monticello?

If we assume the debts the Union gets
a new line of credit, a financial diuretic
how do you not get it?
If we're aggressive and competitive
the Union gets a boost, you'd rather give it a sedative

A civics lesson from a slaver
Hey, neighbor,
your debts are paid cuz you don't pay for labor!
"We plant seeds in the ground, we create "
Yeah, keep ranting. We know who's really doing the planting.

And another thing, Mr Age of Enlightenment
Don't lecture me about the war, you didn't fight in it!
You think I'm frightened of you, man?
We almost died in a trench
While you were off getting high with the French!

It's usually something with timing similar to my pedaling RPMs. On my blue single speed this ditty runs on a continuous loop through my brain (yep, I'm a grinder/masher):

On multi-geared bicycles it varies depending what I last listened to. This lovely young lady's great acoustic cover has come up lately:

and the original works, too:

its usually this:

Moonlight rides:

Well, I've got to run to keep from hidin',
And I'm bound to keep on ridin'.
And I've got one more silver dollar,
But I'm not gonna let 'em catch me, no,
Not gonna let 'em catch the Midnight Rider.

And I don't own the clothes I'm wearing,
And the road goes on forever,
And I've got one more silver dollar,
But I'm not gonna let 'em catch me, no
Not gonna let 'em catch the Midnight Rider.

And I've gone by the point of caring,
Some old bed I'll soon be sharing,
And I've got one more silver dollar,

But I'm not gonna let 'em catch me, no
Not gonna let 'em catch the Midnight Rider

Rush's Red Barchetta has been getting some airtime:
Wind
In my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge...

Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware

Suddenly ahead of me
Across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires
To run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley
As another joins the chase

Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope
I've got a desperate plan
At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle at the fireside

My wife and I were babysitting our niece for the weekend back when the Barney cartoon was popular with little kids. On Friday night she watched it for two straight hours. The next morning I went out for a fast group ride and started singing the the Barney theme song. Maybe for 15 seconds. At the end of the ride all 15 other guys asked me to never come back as they ALL had that infernal song stuck in their heads for the entire ride.

My grandkids watched CatDog years ago on Nickelodeon. Naturally I memorized the lyrics and sang it at inappropriate times. I still could, with the right motivation.

I like my water bottle on the left side and my sports drink bottle on the right side.

"That's the way uh huh uh huh I like it."

Every damn time I get a drink.

I know an X-rated version of the Barney theme song which is a bit more entertaining.

About the tenth time you hear the song in a day, your mind starts working on alternate versions.

My kids much preferred my version of the Clean up song:

Clean up, Clean up,
Everybody Everywhere
Clean up, Clean up,
Everybody do your share

Clean up, Clean up,
Everybody Everywhere
Clean up, Clean up,
put baloney in your underwear.

Six year old boys are not a tough crowd to please.

And if you have kids, you'll hear the same songs at least ten times a day. Kind of like how I had way too much exposure to "Let it Go" a few years ago.

Last song I heard when I got out the car and then went for a ride. Stuck in my head the whole ride:

Nobody gonna take my car, I'm gonna race it to the ground
Nobody gonna beat my car, it's gonna break the speed of sound
Ooh it's a killing machine, it's got everything
Like a driving power, big fat tires and everything

I love it, and I need it, I feed it
Yeah it's a wild hurricane
Alright hold tight, I'm a highway star

Nobody gonna take my girl I'm gonna keep her to the end
Nobody gonna have my girl she stays close on every bend
Ooh she's a killing machine, she's got everything
Like a moving mouth, body control and everything

I love her, I need her, I seed her
Yeah she turns me on
Alright hold tight, I'm a highway star

Nobody gonna take my head I got speed inside my brain
Nobody gonna steal my head now that I'm on the road again
Ooh I'm in heaven again I've got everything
Like a moving ground, an open road and everything

I love it, I need it, I bleed it
Eight cylinders all mine
Alright hold tight, I'm a highway star

Nobody gonna take my car, I'm gonna race it to the ground
Nobody gonna beat my car, it's gonna break the speed of sound
Ooh it's a killing machine, it's got everything
Like a driving power, big fat tires and everything

I'm a highway star, I'm a highway star

Willie the Pimp by
Frank Zappa:

I'm a little pimp with my hair gassed back
Pair of khaki pants with my shoes shined black
Got a little lady walk that street
Tellin' all the boys that she can't be beat
Twenty dollar bill, I can set you straight
Meet me on the corner boy'n don't be late
Man in a suit with bow-tie neck
Want to buy a grunt with a third party check
Standin' onna porch of the Lido Hotel
Floozies in the lobby love the way I sell
Hot meat
Hot rats
Hot zits
Hot wrists
Hot ritz
Hot roots
Hot soots
Hot meat
Hot rats
Hot chicks
Hot zits

Although it's never been one of my favorite Dead songs,"The Wheel " pops into my head often on a ride-" the wheel is turning and you can't slow it down, can't let go and you can't hold on". Been there before in a paceline, and when grinding up a steep hill have often thought "every time that wheel turn around, bound to cover just a little more ground "

[HAMILTON]
Thomas Jefferson, always hesitant with the President
Reticent, there isn't a plan he doesn't jettison!
Madison, you mad as a hatter, son. Take your medicine!
Sitting there useless as two ****s,
Hey turn around, bend over, I'll show you where my shoe fits!

[WASHINGTON]
Excuse me? Madison, Jefferson, take a walk! Hamilton, take a walk! We’ll reconvene after a brief recess. Hamilton!

[HAMILTON]
Sir!

[WASHINGTON]
A word

[MADISON]
You don’t have the votes

[JEFFERSON/MADISON]
You don’t have the votes

[JEFFERSON]
Aha-ha-ha ha!

[JEFFERSON/MADISON]
You’re gonna need congressional approval and you don’t have the votes

[JEFFERSON]
Such a blunder sometimes it makes me wonder why I even bring the thunder

[MADISON]
Why he even brings the thunder…

[WASHINGTON]
You wanna pull yourself together?

[HAMILTON]
I’m sorry, these Virginians are birds of a feather

[WASHINGTON]
Young man, I’m from Virginia, so watch your mouth

[HAMILTON]
So we let Congress get held hostage by the South?

[WASHINGTON]
You need the votes

[HAMILTON]
No, we need bold strokes. We need this plan

[WASHINGTON]
No, you need to convince more folks

[HAMILTON]
James Madison won’t talk to me, that’s a nonstarter

[WASHINGTON]
Winning was easy, young man. Governing’s harder

[HAMILTON]
They’re being intransigent

[WASHINGTON]
You have to find a compromise

[HAMILTON]
But they don’t have a plan, they just hate mine!

[WASHINGTON]
Convince them otherwise

[HAMILTON]
What happens if I don’t get congressional approval?

[WASHINGTON]
I imagine they’ll call for your removal
