Gianni Motta
Hi,
There is a Gianna Motta that popped up on my local CL and I wanted to know if this is a good deal or not?
The seller is asking $220 for it with description "54cm 80's". But since the group is a mix of DA and Camp. I might be able to haggle. Also, there is quite the rust on the rear triangle of the bike. Is it hard to repair the chrome? Or is it even worth my time to repair the chrome?
Also, if anyone knows, what brand of steel tubing is it?
Thank you

Based on amounjt of fork rake, it appears to be an Triathlon Olympic model which came in Columbus Aelle with an Aelle R option.
The rust is quite extensive and, in my opinion, would require an expensive professional repair. The cheaper option would be to remove the rust and paint over it.
There's some good value in parts but given the cosmetic condition of the frame, I hesitate to think of the mechanical condition of the bearings. It looks like this is little life left in the big chainring.

I think that French tubeset would be unusual to find on a 70's or 80's Italian race bike. The French were quite open to use Italian and English tubeset for their bikes but I don't think The Italians strayed too far from Columbus tubing........
But I guess you never know.....

FWIW, the handful or so of Personal 2001 that I've seen have been SL or SLX.
