I thought getting the mounting hardware for $20 from LonePeak was pricey.

One heck of a deal, when you can pick up new Ortlieb Backroller Classics for $100.

Y'know, a tacklebox manufacturer like Plano or Flambeau should seriously look-into producing some touring panniers. In a way, the cat-box panniers do make a lot of sense. Still, they use roto-molding technique for making kayaks - why not do the same for some panniers? Put in some waterproof gaskets, and viola!

I wonder if someone could fashion a set of bicycle "luggage" from carbon fiber, that was as durable and light as Ortleibs? I use the term "as Ortleibs" because they are heavier but more-durable than most others. Think of a set of hard-shell bike panniers that open and close like motorcycle saddlebags and have all the heel clearance you need, have fully-adjustable titanium mounting hardware, and yet will not get all smashed up in a crash. Might be pretty doggone cool.

Not sure if that is $100 each or $100 for the pair of used panniers that probably cost $5 and 15 minutes to make.

Nay!! Nylon fabric is lighter and more adjustable, even Bob uses a duffle not a big tub.
I wonder what he's gonna sell his used bicycle for.
Didn't Amazon have a $100K bicycle a while ago that looked like a $400 bicycle.
