Fizik Bargels--Blue or Clear?
Hi All-
I need to add some extra padding to my bars, and in looking at Fizik's bargels, I see that there are blueish ones (with little molded bumps) and clear ones (with no bumps), available from different vendors.
Has anyone had any experience with either (or even better, BOTH) of these gels? Wondering what the difference between them might be, as far as softness, give, cushioning, etc. I'm thinking that one might be the older models, and the other a newer model. Not sure, but both are available out there...
Thanks!

I developed "crampy" hands a few years ago. After trying weightlifter's gloves which were similar to bike gloves but with more padding, I placed Dr. Scholls heel pads in my gloves (and my softball mitt and batting gloves). Finally I started padding my bars with foam pipe insulation, not the thickest, but not the thinnest. It's like $5 for 6 feet's worth and it lasts a few months before I have to refresh it.
Not the most stylish solution, but it works for me.

I got the tape/bar gel package, clear pad, black tape, they went on nicely.. Look great.
there are thicker foamy tapes you may like , used over the pads... YMMV..
Bike Ribbon sells a different gel pad , in 2 different densities..

My Roubaix that I bought used had gel pads under the tape and I didn't like them at all and I think they actually caused some numbness. I have no idea what kind of pads they were but there was one on the tops of the bars and another separate piece for the inside radius of the drops. Pulled them off when I put on new bar tape and much happier since.

I have the clear Fizik gels on two bikes. I use them mainly for the larger diameter the bars end up being, helps with the arthritis in the hands.

Thanks for all the replies, people! I appreciate them all.
Ogsarg, your Roubaix gels intrigued me--I am looking at putting gels on my 2015 Roubaix, but haven't pulled the old tape off yet--never thought I might find gels under there. We'll see!

The bike I bought is an 09 and has Easton bars and very poorly applied white tape so not original. Since the gel pads only cover about 1/3 of the diameter of the bar, you can tell there was something there due to it being out of round.

My bike is a 2007 CF Roubaix w/ Fizik tape and clear gel shaped pads (I don't remember where it came from). I just replaced my shifters so I am re-taping. My experience:
- Initially I reused my original tape, doing a sloppy job but good enough. I've repositioned the shifters twice.
- I wrapped the new tape (Fizik) over the original tape on one side to see if the extra bulk felt better. Again, sloppy job, but enough I can feel if it works.

After being put onto this trick by an old mechanic, I now double wrap the top of my bars.
I use the tape I'm replacing (if practical) for the bottom layer, start at the levers and wrap back towards the neck as you normally would but in the opposite direction to what the top layer will be. I then wrap the new tape from the bar ends to the neck in the normal fashion. The hooks are left single wrapped.
This gives a nice fat top to your bars and a soft grip without the sponginess of gel. It's a more comfortable version of oversized bars.
