I love '90s bikes, with their silver wheels. Are the V brakes original equipment or a modernization? I bet it rides great!

I don't believe these V-brakes are original, although it seems the original spec sheet shows these models did come with V-brakes. I'm planning on changing out the entire groupset. I just can't figure out what is compatible with what. I want a taller crankset and an 11T rear cog back there and an upgraded brakes -- all in black.

My new Neko

Good news: my Neko 2 came in over a week early. Bad news: I'm stuck in my cast for at least 10 more days. Was hoping to get it off today. And then I'll be in a brace for a while. So i have no idea when I'll actually be able to ride it. But at least I can look at her.

That's a good looking bike. Congrats. That rack is a perfect fit.

2016 Giant Toughroad SLR 1

This is my new to me Toughroad SLR 1. I found it on Craigslist and went to check it out and was very impressed with how light and comfortable it is. The original owner put less than 100 miles on it and was garage kept and all maintenance done by the LBS where the bike was bought from. ALUXX SLR-grade aluminum frame, composite with alloy steerer fork with low-rider rack mounts, SRAM GX 10 speed (11-32T cassette) and Shimano M395 hydraulic brakes. It also comes with front and rear racks. I only rode it around the block but so far it rides great. Can't wait to go on a long ride.
Link to Giant website for full specs https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/toughroad-slr-1-2016

Swapped:
1. Handlebars Fourier HB-MBO17 with silicone grips for Ritchey Pro handlebar
2. regular pedals for Shimano SPD M520
3. Maxxis Maxxlite Speed w/ Silkworm Anti-Puncture, 29x2.00 for Specialized Hemisphere Armadillo 700x38c

Installed:
1. Garmin Edge stem mount
2. Bell
3. Under saddle bag
4. Specialized contour grips
5. Blackburn frame pump
6. Handlebar mirror
7. Blackburn front headlight and taillight
8. Speed & cadence sensor

Original owner's set up (Craigslist ad picture)

Sweet paintwork! 👍 So nice to see that Trek are finally coming out with some colours that stand out.
The weather will be perfect when you start riding again. 😉

Thanks, it is slowly coming together. I found some new handlebars, but unfortunately my basket came in without the mounting struts... Also it was my first ride with the new Stashers top tube bag! Really nice bag that holds a water bottle + a 12oz can, or three 12oz cans. Did 34miles of mixed terrain- pavement, dirt roads, and singletrack today and the bike handled itself very well.

Great-looking '90s MultiTrack! Please remind me again of your drivetrain -- is that a Sram X5/7/9 derailleur? Are you using Sram trigger shifters?

I like it, it's a hybrid alright.
Definitely looks the part as a long distance ride. Very versatile.👍
Is there a reason that you haven't gone for a rack on the back?

This is setup with a super budget drivetrain- Stock rear wheel (with true 7spd freehub), 7of8 cogs 8 speed shimano cassette, 8spd x4 sram trigger shifter and rear derailleur (take offs from another bike), Vuelta MTB crankset, 36t Solodrive narrow wide chainring, and kmc chain.

I actually have a pretty nice Bontrager rear rack that would be perfect on here, but I am just wanting to do something different. I have the bikepacking saddlebag from my 29+ rig and it fits perfectly on the Trek, so when i need it for an overnight trip or whatever it takes about 3min to pack and attach!

I have a deal going for a nice used front rack that I can set a basket on, so hopefully that will happen in the next week or so. I did originally order a Wald 137 front basket to setup with the stock struts and attachments, but it arrived without the support struts, and had to be returned....
Bruce

I don't have a pic with the most current setup with the bikepacking saddlebag, but here is an older one-

Thanks. I generally like Sram stuff -- at least the little experience that I have with it, and I wouldn't mind putting some Sram stuff on my 750, but I do want to keep up the color scheme it currently has (where all the components are either chrome or anodized silver). Most Sram stuff is just flat black, but your RD has some silver on it, which interests me.

Nice bike!

That's a great-looking bike, I love it when they look so capable and ready for whatever comes their way.

A question, what's the orange part alongside the fork? I can't quite make that out.

Thanks for the compliments! The orange thing is a Morakniv. It is a great budget knife, especially for camping duties! I modified this one significantly.

Bruce, if you have a lot of pictures of your bike's progress, would you mind starting a bike build thread on that particular bike, so folks can watch your progress over time, and maybe see some of the special stuff you've added, like that knife and sheath?
