I rode it a lot last year and the saddle setback is too much and I think it might work for me if I get an inline seatpost. I have an origin-8 one coming and if it works I will keep it set up like this for 400K and longer brevets, maybe. Currently it's running 9 speed on a 105 hub. If my calf continues to get sore riding the bike I am not sure what to do about that. I think the serial number pegs it as an 1987 but I painted it like an '89 because the crappy paint had obscured the serial number too much to get a good read. I think person that did coating did good work on the seatstay caps and were light enough with the powder that they didn't fill in the engraved fork crown completely. The only frame painter close-by would have charged me over 500$ for the bike and the PC was 150$ cash. I think I was under 600$ getting the whole bike back on the road after the powdercoat and new tires.
Back on-topic, I dig how that Miyata turned out and I'm always glad to see it.

Old thread but relevant to me as I just dropped off my 1971 Peugeot A08 frame for powder coating. I see that folks are recommending VeloCals or Cyclomondo for replacement decals. VeloCal has multiple options for materials. Which of these do you folks recommend and can you get away with not clear coating afterwards?
Premium cast 2-mil vinyl (for application before clear coat)
High gloss UV-laminate finish (for finished frame)
Premium cast 1-mil vinyl
Low Gloss UV laminate finish

I used the "High gloss UV-laminate finish" decals from Velocals and didn't apply any clear coat afterward. I've already managed to munge one of the top tube decals by clamping it in my workstand, but that's just a dumb move on my part. I've only had them on there since October, so I can't offer a long term report. They look great though.

Nice Moto @Andy_K, but isn't the GR full 531?

I can finally contribute to this thread!
Went to pick up my frame from my powder coater yesterday.
When I got home I was delighted to find my decals had been delivered as well.
Waiting on a chain and cassette to arrive then I can build it up!

Here is mine - 1981 Trek 610 build I just finished in March of this year. East Coast Powdercoat did a nice job of matching the original color as closely as possible. The pictures don't do it justice. It is a two coat process (base & clear) and the decals are from VeloCals.

My Roberts done by Groody Bros.
They applied decals and then clear coated.
Clear coat makes pc indistinguishable from wet.

1976 Holdsworth 531 Special frame with many modifications, most recently by Gugie (which also involved replacing the fork, as discussed elsewhere). Decals by me.
And my old Trek 720, which I bought as a new frame in 1983. I always hated the color; I had decided to repaint before I even paid for it. Finally got around to powder coating it last summer, or maybe it was the summer before that.

What an amazing color. I'll bet it's even more intense in person, in sunlight!

I lucked out, my powder coater charges $50 for the service, extra $20 for any extra masking. They have a number of standard industrial colours in stock at all times like black, white, an orange, and this blue. A custom colour would have been an extra $30 but I went with this and I'm super pleased. Paid $70 all in and only had to wait a week.
I'm going to take proper photos in sunlight once it's all built up!

Lovely bike! I've had very good luck working with the boys over at Groody Bros. They're very sensitive to what needs to be done to a bicycle coating. I posted a couple of my projects to this thread when it first started, but I realize I haven't added my 1966 Paramount P12 that the Brothers Groody did for me last summer. I recreated the graphics in Illustrator and had them printed at a local firm and provided those elements. (The color selection of white came about from a couple telephone conversations with Richard Schwinn, when I was doing a little background on the bike.) I dropped the frame off at Groody and they did the strip, coat, graphics application, and clear coating.
