I'm trying to rev up to drive an hour and ten minutes to bike in the possible rain...
I've definitely got my alarm set for 6:00, which is the same as my work week.
Knowing I can increase attendance by 25% is pretty cool.
:-D

We have a window, I'm in.
Ride may be cut short to avoid the rough stuff that may come late morning.

We have a similar ride in Ann Arbor today, that is likely to rain out. Starting point is a bar, so wimp-er out-ers can drink and talk bikes.

I can't make it because of the 1,000 mile drive (that's as funny as I get), but I think the ride, as described by ia, is what a lot of cyclists is looking for; a sociable vintage ride that is long enough to make it worth-the-while. Also, free-of-charge and bring-your-own-food. No hills, for those of us who have bikes with high gearing. Nice plan, and I hope this type of ride catches on.

I believed the morning weather guys that said it was clearing for a little while....that matched the radar too.... but it never let up all the way until Elgin...so I turned back.

It was a great c&v breakfast.
After breakfast Scott & I checked out a great local bike shop with some awesome Seven and Moots. Got to poke around the basement and look at some cool vintage goodies as well. We made the best of it.

If anyone is ever in Chicago I'm game to meet up and hit the lake shore trail or any of the others here in the city. I'd really like to meet some forum members in person. Even the cyclists and bike commuters I meet here aren't often interest in C&V. It's funny, I've spotted many cool old bikes being ridden, and more often than not the rider is just happy to have a well functioning bike, and the minutiae of the era is not of interest.
I'm bummed I didn't go, even just meeting for tacos and hitting a shop would have been fun.

All things considered, iab managed to get six of us together. And among us, Ron wins for the only one riding ---> to the meet on his Centurion.
Anyways, optimistic Dave shows up with his single speed Cinelli but I think Steve was pushing his luck.... snicker. You see, planning for a day of rusting tubes.... mister big ring, fixed gear was raring to go. LOL

(NO this is not vinti Campy axle release, we're talking way before that time.)

The picture does not really show just how GIANT that chainring really was. Monster bike in the dungeon. Lots of cool vintage parts down there.

Regardless of the ride canceled, we sparked a potential future C&V / NEW custom builders weekend event. This may include a few premier guest - former pro's plus frame builders, various rides (graveler's, roadie), a cyclismo type of party event. I won't reveal names or even confirm any of this but apparently the owner of the shop has been WANTING to do this for some time -already pre-discussed with the possible special guest(s). Absolutely the interest is in vintage and history of the lightweights but a large welcome to modern custom / classic design.
With this and iab's expertise in putting together vintage rides, an area with many accommodations of all kind -camping to hotel an excellent travelers hub -air / train, etc., could see something terrific for all enthusiast. No eroica type of rules.
I'll leave this discussion but after some network / connecting of others and we brainstorm the idea, only then will start a new thread.

Heh - the Cafe Olympic. When I was a kid, the dads would take us there for breakfast before a Saturday of fishing. Glad you guys got a good breakfast, at least.
Speaking of dads, I've been in Crystal Lake all day helping mine with stuff around the house. He just turned 95. Weather hasn't improved.
What shop did you end up at?
