Down in San Luis Obispo (halfway between LA & SF basically) bc my partner’s doing a work seminar thing and I came along to ride some new roads. Actually I’ve done these roads before, this is where our team’s annual training camp is.
106 miles today, solo.
Lots of up and down - almost 7k feet of elevation gain. Mostly sunny, but some fog, because California coast. Don’t believe all the movies about warm beaches in CA - it can be really cold here! And the water is freezing (I hear). Temps ranged between 52f and 95f for me today.
Also, I only stopped twice for water.
Also #2, I SAW A TARANTULA!! First time seeing one in real life. I thought it was a rock on the shoulder but the rock had big furry legs. The thing was huge. It was on 101 tho so I couldn’t turn around to take a closer look.
Anyway the roads are pretty nice down here, and it’s nice to do something different. Training-wise I’m not really planning on really starting for a week or two, but this will end up being a big-ish week.

Mountain biking this morning. Dropped another 3 minutes off the climb I've been doing. No big changes to the bike, dropped the front by 2 spacers, but I guess I'm just getting to be a better mountain bike rider.
On a tt bike note, went through and took pictures of each setup.. Anyone with an eye for this stuff, take a look.

91 miles today.
Kinda hard to avoid climbs down here in SLO, and then the flip side is the super flat farm roads that make my ass hurt (from lack of standing).

more cross racing for me this weekend, 2 of them. saturday's was tough but beautifully picturesque and yesterday's was fun at a farm (and included apple picking and cider donuts afterwards). dumb seatpost slipped at both (I need a slightly bigger diameter for my el-cheapo bike) so my quads were really put through the ringer. whether that affected my performance in any real way I'm unsure.

An out-of-control out-classed young rider took out the guy next to him, and I went down (slow and soft) because I was behind him. I'm fine.
His riding was so bad, I thought maybe he didn't have any experience. And then he tells me that he is races for the premier race team in the high school ranks. Go figure.
I would have liked to have received an apology, now that I think about it.

cross, or road? If cross I think that's like just part of the game.

Scheduled an FTP test...and I slept 3 hours last night. So yeah, that's not happening.
Glad you're okay.

last week was good. ~17 hours, 312 miles and 870 tss. I went unrestricted on my efforts thursday, did a hilly/steady coastal ride with @scheibo on Saturday and unrestricted power on Sunday. My leg feels _fine_, at least, no worse if not better, so I'm optimistic.

Got back from India, two weeks off the bike. Did a 50 mile look in the White Mountains and my legs were pretty sore afterwards. Hiked the next day, then did some Zwifting this morning. Didn't lose fitness (as much as many of you poked fun at me I didn't believe I actually would
) though it was interesting to have my legs be sore after a ride. Back to it I guess.

15hrs (including commutes) + 5hrs running + 2hrs core/strength/rolling for me last week ends up being the biggest week i've had in a while (at least since i hurt my wrist). 18-22 hours is usually pretty typical for me, but given it was kind of a cluster**** at work and life was a bit PITA last week, I have no idea how I still managed to scrape through the week alive. no real intensity to the riding i did last week, it was mostly just a coping mechanism. my 5hr ride on saturday with fudgy was probably the highpoint of the week, and getting in 8.5 hrs over the weekend kind of rescued what would have otherwise been a fairly poor training week.
taking it super chill today (just did 1hr easy on the trainer will watching netflix, and currently hiding in a meeting room at work to avoid continually being overwhelmed like last week) - i dont feel like i *need* recovery from the training, but I know life/work stress + training stress adds up so I'm giving myself time to settle down a bit.
3 flats this week (2 on my commuter bike). 2 goatshead thorns, 1 nail. IME, this happens every year around this time in cali - i get like a flat or two a week for a month (even with new tires) until it finally rains and helps clear the bike lanes of 8 months of built up detritus.

19 hours and about 800 tss a few weeks back, but almost 200 miles were commuting and I'm not really at a level to brag about anything, even on the 41. Just some fat, old, broken dude trying get back to a place I was the in the past. I can't even sprint anymore. 3 pitbulls chasing and I couldn't even break 600 watts.
