I'm Ready To Change Headset
Hey All Learned Gurus,
My crud headset has bit the dust. The upper cone, race, and bearings are good. The lower crown race and bearings are always dirty, pitted, and brinelled. A while back I got rid of the 'caged' balls and went to 'cage-less' thinking that would help.
Anyway, I would like some recommendations for a 1" threaded headset with sealed bearings. I know all specifications of my existing 'stuff' and don't want to get into a discussion of JIS, ISO, PRO, French, SHIS, etc. 'cause I've gone into that bottomless pit of literature and managed to come out with a 'basic' understanding and with at least some understanding comfort.
Please bear in mind that whatever headset I buy the cost ($$) will come out of my annual beer allowance, so a Cain Creek is most-def only in my dreams.

Does that match your stack height?

the question here would be does the stack of the new headset match the stack of the old one ? if so the go ahead and buy it , if not then find one that does .

My 'Stack Height' as stated from the bike mfg is 34.5. I e-mailed Orgin8 and asked them for the spec's. Good suggestions from both of you.

I personally would measure the stack height myself to verify. 34.5 stack height isn't real large and will likely limit the headsets you can actually use to something like a Tange Levin.

Best 1" headsets I've ever used are Ultegra 1" threaded.
If you can source on e-bay or NOS, that's how I would go. I stocked up and purchased an extra many years ago, have never needed it and am not selling either.

34.5 stack height really really limits what can be used.

Thanks all for the recommendations. I'll check them out. I'll also measure my frame head tube and fork tube to 'eyes-on' verify the 34.5 the mfg gave me.
Nothing on bicycles is simple. It was much easier on motorcycles dirt or street.

Try Ritchey. Oddly their website doesn't list stack height but Chain Reaction list it as 33mm. Probably best to contact Ritchey directly though. Ritchey Logic Threaded Headset | Chain Reaction Cycles
