Basso Gap max tire size?
Hi everyone, working on a basso gap build (thread coming soon) and before I order tires I wanted to ask and see if anyone has experience with what the max tire size is on these bikes? I tried hunting this answer down on the web and there is very little info available. I'm assuming 23-25mm max? I tried fitting my other wheels with 28's and they definitely don't fit. Figured it would be worth it to ask here before I take the plunge and buy some tires.
Thanks!
Josh

I just snapped a couple of pics from my Gap. These are the Conti 4000s II 700x25 tires on a typical 1980's Mavic rim that not very wide. There is still some room as you can see.
Of course your rims and what brakes you run will figure in to. I'm pretty sure I tried the Conti 4000s II 700 x28's and they didn't fit.

I don't think all Basso Gap frames are exactly the same; and (aside from that) the brakes may be a limiting factor in some cases.
I think my Gap could fit a 28 mm tire, even 32 in front, depending on the brake (dual pivot calipers hang low, smaller tires are indicated).
That said... Yo! This is a Basso Gap we're talking about, si? For the proper experience you want 17 mm tubular tires pumped up to 185 psi, dig?
Eh, I'm selling mine....

I just threw a MA40 with Gatorskin 28 on my '84 and looks like it would work OK. Plenty of brake clearance, Campy Athena monoplaner.

Conti GP4000IIS are currently measuring quite a bit wider than nominal. Calipers and measurements are required, not optional. The old school narrow rims are quite appropriate to this bike, tires much wider than 28mm are going to mount lightbulb shaped and a bit queasy if you ride them hard. If you are looking for comfort on a stroll of a ride it doesn't matter.
Having handled hundreds of those frames at the importers' I can assure you they are not all the same. Not just year to year variation, significant variation in same batch.
