2hrs z2 for me today, my trainerroad plan had 84tss but I substituted a 97tss one since I didn't ride yesterday. ftp testing tuesday, fingers crossed for 285 (would be ~4.1w/kg) lol
ctl is at 78, tsb at +6

Ketchup on eggs is nasty! Hot sauce is where its at! I also like frying potatoes on the stove top. Slice them real thin so they get crispy, and use coconut oil cuz I can get it hotter than olive oil. Still takes like 20 minutes so I don't do it often.
Gary, yeah I get what you mean about the lazy pakaged food epidemic. Honestly we cook dinner most every night, but I just have this habit from decades of cereal for breakfast (6 siblings so it was easy on my parents to just get big Costco boxes of cheerios and corn flakes) and I like breakfast to be quick especially if im about to go ride. When I said how does one survive without cereal, I probably was imagining either a super time consuming breakfast, or even worse thinking of those people who starve themselves until lunch. Still, I don't think shredded wheat, grape nuts, and cheerios are much more proccessed than a slice of toast.

I did the most iconic and fastest group ride in the Dallas area yesterday for the first time. This is the group ride that is treated like a race and gets out all the cat ones and twos and everyone else. And sometimes local Pros. I stayed in with the main Chase group until the 30 mile mark. That was about the point that the people that had been dropped rejoined group after a shortcut. Then the main group split into two. I was far enough back that I didn't really get to see the split happen. I wasn't dropped I was just further back. But essentially at that point it became an A chase group and a B chase group. The first group was like your cat ones and cat twos. The next group was your cat 3 and cat 4. So I was never dropped per se. Most of my peer cat 4s had been dropped and took the shortcut. And then in the final group finish I finished about third. So it was one of those first-time experiences doing a ride. The next step for me would be to be able to stay with the faster Chase group the entire time. This ride had more than 60 guys in it. I was pleased that I survived without taking a short cut.

so speaking of food, we struggle with eating healthy while not spending free time cooking/cleaning up in an otherwise busy life (we also hate buying too much food and end up wasting a lot that doesn't quite get used completely). we found a service called hungry root, which I suppose is comparable to something like hello fresh or blue apron, but this one is vegan and almost all their meals take under 10 minutes to cook. I'm not vegan or even vegetarian, but I like it. They even included a brownie batter made out of black beans that was really good.

The biggest thing, at least for junior, is the length of the event. We have decided he should bag the road racing as it is too long and he just can't do the hours training. As such his new training intensity is higher, and rest is greater. And fueling has changed.
The food changes are sugar focused before training - for training. General eating, is generally bad, college kid bad food while avoiding soda (I'm told) and caffeine. Way too much fried food, milkshakes IMO. But body composition is about the same, with a lot more upper body mass by his design, not mine.
I don't have power numbers as training is, as mentioned in the gym. Last numbers I had was 445W for 5 min @ 140lbs - June 2016 - 7W/kg (yea, I know). New eating, resting and training, not really surprisingly, have speed significantly higher than before.
I don't think those power numbers are useful for elite road races where you have to race 100 miles first and see who has what left. Track and crits are a better option for high power. The training and eating for each are significantly different.
For most that post here, seems sugar is the better training fuel. What you do to live well, and be healthy is different.

add a few walnuts & some maple syrup -- your mind will be blown!
(i prefer strawberries or blueberries to a banana but go with a banana most often.)
only thing is it is not a ton of protein, so you can either go with some whey or mix in a fried egg or something. (you can cook the oatmeal with milk to add a bit of protein.)

12 hours and just 500 TSS, but I felt like it was quality. This hamstring issue is nagging at me, I get a twitch about an hour into rides, it doesn't hurt but I really don't want to tear it so I'm trying to limit my volume.
You should be able to do it; all those hammerfests have a certain flow to them and once you know where they take off, relax, start a break, etc. you'll be able to get to the front group on less effort.

I've been seeing that my power is lower than what I think it should be. In the race this weekend, I did plenty of work, but yet my power (both average and normalized) was lower than a couple of other guys who finished behind me, and/or didn't do as much work near the front. They're guys with similar builds to me. Maybe I'm more aero or something, but I doubt it'll make a 20-30W difference, probably more, considering I put myself out in the wind a lot. Could my power meter be miscalibrated?

Packaged food is just buying time. Of course we waste most of the time we buy, but ease and convenience are always going to be top-tier marketing.

Well, this was my first time doing the ride. It's known as probably the most aggressive, fastest hammerfest in the Dallas metro area. I've done the slower version of this ride, and it's not like this. The thing I worry the most about on this ride are the road conditions. Guys on this ride were yelling out when cars were coming and so forth. So not as bad as it looks (I think).

CTL up to 83 for the first time since the new year.

It was actually a relatively low wind day as well. About 8mph. Is this kind of riding out of the norm for the hammerfests in your area?
This particular route gets tons of cyclists all the time. So most of the guys know it like the back of their hand.

I didn't watch the whole thing, but it didn't strike me as particularly egregious, not by River Ride standards.

Training is still in the dumps.
Got off the antibiotic a few weeks ago, was starting to feel good again (including a PR for indoor FTP test)...then had to go back on the antibiotics. Legs feel like trash again.
Im pretty much wiping any races off my calendar through mid april..hopefully i can salvage some fitness by mid May for a 3 day omnium that ive done a few times over the years.

Actually, in my 50s I rarely eat before lunch (unless I'm racing) but I wouldn't categorize as starving myself. If I find I'm hungry I have a larabar or some nuts or something. But with most of my workouts being two hours or less and occurring early I don't need much. Hasn't hurt my numbers. I'm putting up historical bests for me, and with less bodyweight to boot.
Some of youse have huge numbers. I hit 95 CTL, but have cratered since I hit build. Workouts are hella hard though.
Off to play meditation teacher. Ten days in New Hampshire with early morning outdoor trainer workouts. Even brought a shovel in case I need to clear some room with the snow coming.
