Between rains and work hours, been riding the stationary for the last couple of weeks. Rode it this am. Rain broke, got out for a real ride late afternoon! Some roads, some park trail.....

I'm going home to get on the trainer yet again, snow tomorrow and the next day, 5-11" predicted, so likely the rest of this week. It isn't supposed to get warmer anytime soon either. At this rate it'll be mid-April before I'll get outside again

Not looking good weather-wise. Now they are saying 12-16" in NYC. Maybe I should join my wife in Florida at her conference.

Normally, I set up the bike in the garage, but wifi is spotty out there so I decided to set up in our downstairs front room. I did my best to insulate the sound (rug/yoga mat/beach towel under the trainer) but our hardwood floors just resonate sound all through the house. When I came upstairs to take a shower, my wife sleepily asks me "Did you hear that weird rumbling sound this morning? Was somebody trimming their trees at 6am?"
"Uh, no sweetheart. I didn't hear anything like that. Sure you didn't dream it?"

Spin class yesterday, only for a little father-daughter bonding.
It was the dumbest spin class ever. Half spin and half some sort of dancing jazercize while sitting on the bike.

I have no use when the Instructor does something indoors that will NOT be used outdoors. Riding is riding. Indoors you don't have to worry about cars, pedestrians, or even the wind. But Indoors should benefit the outdoor riding.

That is one reason I started "teaching" indoor riding. Then when and instructor does something not useful for outdoors, I do my own thing....climb or race. The idea is to do something you would see outdoor riding.

Keep in mind that many spin class participants don't have the same goals as you. Cyclists ride indoor bikes to improve their riding outdoors. Most others just want to be generally fitter and the tool just happens to be an indoor bike. I know dedicated Soul Cycle/Peleton users who don't even own a real bike.

Did a group ride on Zwift for the first time. It was pretty fun. https://www.strava.com/activities/1464089402

Rain here in Socal today through Friday. May have to hit Coach Troy and some Spinervals this evening. Wife does online Peleton sessions and really likes them.

I intended to do a bunch of trainer riding this winter. Got thwarted by the trainer. The rides got too easy. By the last couple I knew something was wrong. Last rie I averaged 24 mph, sprinted at the end in the high 30s and maxed at 43! (My trainer is a Cyclops purchased in the late 90s.) Obviously there was no resistance. Fluid broken down? Or leaked out? Cyclops would replace the resistance unit for $200. Not in my budget. I bought some hydraulic jack oil and started taking the unit apart. Couldn't get the fill cap off. Dissembled the unit. (Fluid was all there and fine. Made a big mess.)
Upon inspection, it seems the key-like lock between the spindle and the rotating turbine had worn/sheared and was doing nothing. Ie the unit was in neutral. Made a new shim and epoxied it in place. Drilled the fill cap and tried to remove it with an easy-out. Wasn't going anywhere! So I reassembled the unit, filled it through the easy-out hole, then epoxied the easy-out into the hole. By this time, the weather was good and I had a bunch of outdoor miles so I haven'e used it yet, but i believe it is ready to go. (Cost of repair so far - I think I paid $5 for the oil. Epoxy I had. The medal scrap I had. My most used easy-out is now out of service.)

My Fluid2 trainer leaked and Cycleops replaced it. I also inquired about getting a smart unit for the same stand since the Magnus uses the same stand and they quoted me $400. Not enough cheaper than just buying the whole thing new with a 10% discount that you get from Clevertraining.
I visited the Peloton studio on 23rd St here in NYC to do a class, but I was a bit turned off by it all. It was all pretty people, and they weren't there to train for a century, or even a spin around the park. My guess is most of them wouldn't be caught dead on a real bike.

I did an indoor training session at my local bar. 4 days in a row of Zwift and the Sufferfest were enough. Tomorrow I ride outside in the melting snow. The roads are surprising dry after a foot of the slop.

Major snowstorm last night left everything wet, icy and snow covered. Taught class indoors this morning and then rode for another hour afterwards. Great class and a lot safer indoors this morning. I still miss outdoor riding and wish this snow would melt fast.

We finally had that spring day we were looking for in NYC. 55-60 and sunny. I did my ride outdoors, and hopefully many more to come. I'd like to be done with indoor riding for the season, but I'm sure there will still be some more.

Wind trainer this morning
7' 95 rpm
5' one leg practice 71 rpm ~ 30 seconds each
6x1' standing 44 rpm 52/12
5' one leg practice 80 rpm ~ 30 seconds each
10' 101 rpm
This was my first time doing the one leg practice.
The cranks tended to stop at top, and I tired about half way through each rep.
First time standing was difficult too. I like both of these, and plan to keep doing them.
