Is anyone using Castelli Alpha (or Alpha ROS) Jacket? (or in fact any other, since it's all the same size chart)

I'm a very small guy at 5'6 and 125lbs. I'd like to order small (which from the sizing charts is more than large enough) but with all this talk about Castelli running really small, I now think maybe it'll be too small. I'm hoping I'll find someone somewhere around my size that could help!

I'm nowhere near your size, but I'm 6'2" 175 pounds and a large is form fitting. Sleeve and body length is great, but the Castelli clothing I own isn't made for overweight types.

I’m 5’7” and weigh 140. I wear a medium Castelli jacket. I have an Espresso 3 and 4 and the Alpha RoS jacket. All are form fitting but fit me great.

I own an Alpha Wind Jersey which is last year's version of the Alpah ROS jersey.

I'm 5'10" and when I was 195 lb an XL fit snug. It is a bit looser at 172 lb but still very serviceable.

Sounds about right for Castelli.

At 5'7 and 140, small Alpha jersey fits perfectly. I personally never found Castelli sizing inconsistent. Always followed the size chart with accurate results. I can only speak for cold weather tops though whereas I did hear their summer jerseys really do run small, but I wouldn't know since I don't own one.

The alpha jacket fits a bit bigger so you can get a base layer on too, the alpha jersey is more fitted. both are a bit less fitted than the gabba


You may want an XS in the Jacket if you won't be using a base layer. The thing comes with its own base layer anyway.


Castelli gets a rep for fitting tight (on American recreational riders anyway) but I find them usually quite generous in the chest and stomach area, and a just bit tight at the shoulders.

Castelli has smaller incremental overall size changes between the nominal size designations (ie. S/M/L/XL etc).. so by the time you get to L and XL+ sizes, they don't fit the same as other brands. However, generally speaking, they start on the small end of things at about the same place as other brands. I've never really had any issue with Castelli size charts if you follow their size charts.

I'll probably use some base layers, I want it to do road bike at around 0C (until the first snow), but also to go with the fatbike at temperatures down to -30C! (average in the winter is more around -10C, -15C, but it happens)

I'm 6'02 180 lbs and I love Castelli. However, I am frustrated with their sizing. I typically wear large but with Castelli, I can swing a lg or xl. I must be in between sizes for them because I whatever size I order I seem to send it back and swap it out. I wish local stores would carry them so I could try them out first.

I love castelli, I read lots about how their sizing was crazy. For me at least, following the charts works. I would say that I would probably get my next jacket in L instead of M like I wear jerseys, so it isn't tight with a regular jersey under it. With just a base layer, it fits just like a jersey.

Thanks everyone for your input, the jacket arrived yesterday, I took it for a quick ride at ~0C, it fits perfectly and does a perfect job. Couldn't be happier!
