I won't bore you with the detail as to why but I've swapped bar end grips today and may have to swap them back again as well as make further changes and my hands feel like they've gone 10 rounds of a slapping contest with Mike Tyson ....

Is there an easy way to get them off and then back on again, I was thinking some sort of lubricant but then they'll just keep rotating on the bars.

Over time someone's probably found an easy "ish" way to do it, if anybody knows what that is my hands would be awfully grateful if you'd share

Compressed air to remove them, and either compressed air or hair spray to put them back on.

Fortunately I do have a small compressor / air blower gun for it .... I guess just aiming it in between the grip and the handle bars .... does it make any difference / help if the grips are open ended ??

Don't use any lubricant that contains oil. While these will work to remove grips, they will not stay on after that. The oil tends to permanently lubricate the grip and they will always twist or move later.

I'm guessing because it evaporates so they don't slide / twist after putting them back on??

Is rubbing / isopropyl alcohol OK with rubber or does it rot it over the longer term?

Lift one side or another and squirt some water in. Try to twist the grip. Squirt more water in until it comes off. Use water again to put on.

If you mean handlebar grips get a set of the kind that clamp on both ends with an Allen wrench and much easier to take on and off.

Try Ergon grips and you probably won't want to remove them but if you do they are just an allen key away.

I wet the insides of the grips with 70% isopropanol (rubbing alcohol) - available from the supermarket. This lubricates the grip for sliding it on, but evaporates away in an hour or so.

Insert small screwdriver between bar and grip...squirt pb blaster/ wd40 or like lubricant in there. Leave screwdriver in there and twist the grip. Clean up with dawne after its off. A little soapy water to put back on. Easy peasy on the cheap.

Cheers for the suggestions everyone, it was to swap grips that I already had over on bikes as I was moving some end bars and having cut one set of grips down so they fit didn't want to cut the other set down, I used isopropyl alcohol to get them back on the other bike.

Longer term though I may look at getting some Ergon grips anyway so cheers for the suggestion of those as well!

Dish soap or a schpritz of 409 to remove; replace with ODI grips. Problem solved.
