As for elevation profile, the 150k lists about 5800 ft of climbs. The largest hills are around 450 ft of climb and probably close to a 12% grade. The overall total is made up about half by these comparatively longer climbs and the rest is about 100 ft rollers. IMO it is a somewhat difficult ride but mainly the degree of stress is sometimes added to by the heat and humidity.
Hills are more punchy than a long western climb at 7% if that’s what you are used to. But there is usually a short downhill to recover with.
If you want to manage it well then I suggest a bike with triple style low gears. I have done it on a regular, compact, and triple and there is no shame in riding with the triple. It keeps you fresh for the few flat spots of the route.
Now ot if you want a crazy punishing ride then stick around until the next weekend and ride the Sadistic Century in Menomonie Wi. That’s what is in the photos

Well, this morning I was out with 2 friends doing a remote route on forest service roads in the cascade mtns when I crashed and broke my collarbone.
Had to ride over 25 miles of gravel to get back to our car. that hurt. especially downhill.
I cancelled my reservation at the Walker House this evening so if someone needs a room...there's one available. I was really looking forward to meeting some mid-west forumites at the Dare but it won't happen this year. oh well

Serious bummer. Get better first, then plan for '19.
Better attrition by clavicle than some alternatives.
Glad you are here to tell us, and a wind-aided recovery.

Where is your new starting point? I drive to Marion-Carbondale frequently and 57-74-39 is always fastest. Then Rockford to Freeport and north.

I’m looking forward to the ride reports, repairs and remodeling of the house and family things have taken priority over cycling events. At least I’ve been able to get a few lunchtime rides in during the work week.
What is this other event or ride in Sept. 2019?

I've seen 'em.
They're real, and they're spectacular.

Show your date for the dance....
OK, so I've sent the $ for the Friday meal, made my reservations, and yes, actually finished the bike I intend to use.
So, Let's See 'Em. What are you bringing to dance with? Just the one, a pic or two, and describe the build. Is it a Dare veteran? New flame? Will it take it's place besides iab's Frejus as the Granddaddy in the Dare Dance lineup, or beside Salubrious's IGH tree-climbing anything goes Whatever It Takes....
And just for fun, list the bikes you've Dared with....even the ones you brought that didn't make it through.
I'll update when I get pics today.

Previous Dare bikes include a '90 Cinelli Mens Sana with Super Record friction six speed and Schwinderella- a Gugie-fied Voyageur 650B conversion. Both made the ride.
Also used a mid 80's Merckx Corsa with DA 7400 six speed on the Bartali Ride in 2014, which is about as close as one can get to a Dare metric, I guess.

Doc is "... a veteran, of the psychic wars." He also starred as Doc Cannondale for a young lad whose Cannondale 2.7 suffered a mechanical on the Dare a couple of years ago. We told the kid that Dr. Cannondale would be along to help fix his bike. It happened and we did not bother to clarify any assumptions the young man may have formed.
Can't wait to see the Yellow Submarine once more. I no longer have my Cannondale.....as I traded it for a Serotta.

Doc knows at least one of the reasons I'll bring this to the Dare. Anyhow, it fits, is geared right, and I'll plod through on it....
1985 Raleigh Competition, Racing USA Series. Reynolds 555 frame and fork. Shimano 6500 Crankset, FD, RD, BB, calipers, and cassette. 52/42/30 pulling on 11-28. Selection by DA 7700 downtube shifters and Modolo composite aero levers grab the stoppers. 3TTT stem, Performance bar, SR post and Prologo Scratch Pro (flat ass) saddle. Wheels are DA 7400's laced to Aeroheads, and the Veloflex Masters. 700x23 are the largest this little bike will run. So be it.
No noise.
Past Dare rides:
1985 Cinelli Equipe Centurion. 53/39 and 12-24.
1987 D'Arienzo SLX (Basso). Centaur compact Ergo.
1988 Centurion Ironman Master with Mirage 2x8 Ergo.
1988 Centurion Ironman Master with Dura Ace 2x9 STI.
I rode Bartali on an '86 DeRosa Professional, and felt inferior....
I may have to get an Eye-Tal for Coppi.....

My Dare Bikes
OK Boring I know. I am old enough to no longer love the grind. I appreciate and use often the climbing gears. In fact I built my 84' Black Beauty after my 1st dare. When I get on this bike, my daily rider, it is the most comfortable bike I have ever owned. Like a pair of worn out jeans, old shoes, slippers full of holes. It was design to go for miles...a touring geometry, not a fancy racing bike. Built with SL and SP Columbus tubing, and outfitted with Shimano 600, Deore XT, and an Ofmega Triple.
My first Dare, thank goodness was changed due to chip seal, or I would have never made it. I was on a Trek 700, mid eighties. I never liked it, don't even care to remember it.
Sorry, I am a one team man. Steelers since '76 (are you surprised) and Schwinn my whole life.

Hunh. Coleman's last ride.
You know, every time I pray, Coleman gets mentioned. Miss that guy.
Hodgy, if I hadn't previously committed to the Cannondale, I'd have been sorely tempted to bring either the '84 or '87 Paramount. Or the Prologue.

Speaking of work stands, is anyone bringing one? Would make my cleaning/tire change work so much easier...

If someone doesn't step, up, though, I'll bring mine. It would mean I bring one bike, not two.

Prologue
You keep speaking about this mythical Prologue...I think at this time I need proof! :-)
