Super fast time-out

The last few days, I've been getting logged off while reading a thread. It's a new thing. I use Win7 and Firefox, both up-to-date. Time-out seems to be about 2 minutes. Any fix?

Did you check the remember me box when you signed in?

Did you set your browser to reject third party cookies or something similar in your browser?

Are you sure it's not a browser setting you made that is at fault?

I'm getting logged out after I close my browser, even when choosing "remember me." I take it our login here is now a third party cookie? I have an exception for cookies that allows bikeforums.net, is there another domain I can whitelist instead of allowing every third party site?

Logins have always been cookies saved to your computer/device, when you clear that cache they are all gone, unless you have told it to remember your login(s).

If you checked something like delete my temporary internet files (cache) on closing in your browser settings, that is part of the problem.

If you have chosen to have the browser remember your logins then it should come back...you may have to type a character of the ID and it will probably kick in and give you the ID to click on, then the password fills in when you click that box (all dots) and if you made your settings right it will remember.

*This is for Internet Explorer, others are similar, I used IE and Firefox.

There has never been a time when this has NOT been the case for me. Any post that takes more than a minute or two to compose, causes me to have to log back in just make the post. I have 3rd party cookies disabled, ad blocker on or off makes no difference.

What gets me is the post previewing that seems to be going on, where you make a post, and then it takes 5 minutes or more before it shows up on the board.

I continue to use my ancient laptop. Win7 and Firefox both up to date. Got logged off tonight while actively clicking around various threads. No new software installed on my end. No change in cookie, cache or history management on my end. In fact, I'm still old and boring and this is new behavior on this forum.

Linux OS and Firefox browser here. I have had this behavior from day one here, I don't mind it, and I'm not complaining about it.

Other message boards do the same thing, especially fancy websites like this one with all kinds of assorted fancy scripts and code running busily in the background so you get your precious ads and they get to harvest whatever they data want off of us, I'm used to it, goes with the territory.

Try clearing your cache/cookies. You might have too much information stores on them. Also. make sure you have your cookies enabled after.

Thanks for the reply IBThomas. My browser is set to clear cookies, cache and history when shut down, which I do often.

That explains why your login information is going missing so often. Having too much information saved as cookies can hamper your browsing, but you'll need to have them enabled to save your login information.

Clearing cookies, cache and history cause a fast time-out on this web-site? I appreciate the answer, but . . .

I've been a computer user for decades (like most here) so I know when something is new and different. I've tried all the typical stuff including extensive web searches.

Again, I appreciate the reply but it doesn't get at the real issue of super-fast time-outs. I'll drop the topic.

I answered this more or less in the other thread you were in. By your information you've created the situation yourself, saving the logins or using a password manager helps.
