School me on a crankset (BB30 content)

School me on a crankset (BB30 content)
I've had modern, prefer classic, but occasionally venture into unknown territory.
I'm upgrading a bike that I bought for a friend. The NOS 2015 model was reasonably priced, shares the same frame as an "upgraded" Dura Ace model, but is getting a complete component makeover (to Dura Ace 9000), and new cockpit, post, saddle, housings, etc. The OEM stuff will go elsewhere.
It has an abominably heavy FSA Gossamer BB30 crank set . That has got to go.
I can't seem to find DA9000 or even 9100 in BB30 in any kind of selection (think female, 170mm). I have NOS compact rings....
Will I need to go elsewhere from Shimano for a crankset? Not a problem, but I'd like to stay "in the game" on the components.
So, are there recommendations out there for a nice BB30 crankset, preferably compact, for this bike? I'm not sure I can go SRAM, but would consider it for the crank only...
Thanks in advance.
Robbie

BB30 is a bottom bracket shell specification, not a crankset specification. It refers to the frame, not the crankset.
There are lots of bottom brackets which fit BB30 shells and allow use of Shimano cranks with 24 mm spindle.

I'd go with Praxis.

What is your budget? You can get lighter cranksets, but you're going to spend a pile of money...to not save that much weight (AKA spend $500USD+ to save 100g of weight).

Praxis or Wheel Mfg. BB30 to Shimano Spindle adapter and either DA9000 or Ultegra 8000 crankset.
You could buy a BB30 crank but then you would have to go off the Shimano reservation of cranksets. To me, Shimano makes the best cranksets...my opinion. Campy UltraTorque close second. You can even run DA crank with inexpensive BB30>24mm spacers/adapters made by Wheel Mfg. They work nicely but you better install the BB30 bearings properly and that means Loctite.

At least this is what I would do if ever I would use Shimano.

No it isn't....that crankset is around 770 grams. Which is in the realm of what an Ultegra Hollowtech II weighs thereabouts.

When I saw the no BB30 DA9000 cranksets, I started to wonder. I've seen those adapters fail before, and I don't want to deliver a new bike with a future issue. I can conceivably go with something different, I suppose. Thanks for the advice. I may look at FSA.

I like the DA9000 I currently have on my '89 Centurion, and that remains an option, with an adapter, weighed vs. an FSA, I guess.

I have an R8000 here, and a 6800 compact, both in boxes (and slated for my bikes...)

The external-bearing solutions for 30mm spindles don't get much love online... My BB386EVO in my BSA shell is still fine after many thousands of miles in rain and deluge without needing a grease repack--probably because it is on a bike with full coverage fenders.

There are lots of BB30 bottom brackets which fit Shimano 24 mm crank spindles. That's all you need. I linked to four of them above.
If you don't want issues then get the Praxis and be done with it. It isn't an adapter and does not press into the frame. It will not creak.

Again, BB30 refers to the bottom bracket shell which is part of the frame. BB30 does not refer to the cranks.

Kit doesn't match
As already mentioned, the Praxis adapter (or whatever it is!) isn't the cheapest solution, nor the most expensive -- but it's a nice piece and works well.

My Podium has 105 cranks with a Praxis adapter. Zero issues, it doesn't make a sound. My Focus has FSA BB30 cranks and I hate it. I really hate having to hammer out the bearings, it makes me cringe. I'm going to get a Praxis and install some Race Face Cadence cranks I have to replace it.

SRAM Red 22 Crankset.. can be found under $400 on eBay. Under $300 for the one with old graphics if you're really lucky. I used them with Praxis chainrings and it weighs around 500 grams.
