I've been following it and it looks like i'd be a lot of fun, but I'm a 250 lb flatlander who rarely rides hills, much less mountains. I'm afraid I wouldn't have much fun and be a drag on the ride. You, Robbie, nomadmax and whoever else of the SOTR group who could make it need to come down to Jacksonville / Camp Lejeune for a ride with Law 3speedslow & myself. Max has already said he'd like to do it.

I said Law as in short for Lawrence....not The Law. You could always wear a disguise, or maybe Raleigh / Greensboro would be far enough away

"Preening"? That statement could refer to any Lead Guitarist.

Very cool your boys are good...reminds me of my junior high school band days when us drummers would congregate in the "percussion store room" for jam sessions that would last 15-20 minutes at a time.

Never heard Heart do that, but they were one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Amazing talent.

I'm recently smitten by Peggy Lee. This one (a rehearsal) reminds me of the Gena Rowlands character in A Woman Under the Influence ... in a good way:

Finally looked up Linda's bio on wiki and I'm pleased to see she had a lot more going for her than I gave her credit for. Apart from the singing, she didn't take crap from anyone and walked her own path.
Since we're devolving a bit, why not a lot. A high water mark for disenfranchised punks in the 80s.

I concur that the bicycle is a Nishiki and that the photo was taken in a USA based shop. Both are supported by the English language Nishiki warranty plaque on the wall. This appears to be the same warranty included on the back page on the 1978 catalogue, supporting the reported 1978 photo date.
As for the bicycle, it is a 1978 Nishiki Comp, 2nd from the top of the line. The brakeset is clearly not the Dia-Compe Gran Compe used on the top of the line Superbe but the Dia-Compe 500G specified on the Comp and International. However, it does not have the flat crown and 1/2 chromed fork of the International. The sloping crown and 1/5 chromed fork are indicative of a Comp. The low contrast between the chrome and paint suggest the Champagne colour option.
Regarding Ronstadt, I always enjoyed her songs but don't own any. While she has a marvelous voice, I finding her singing lacking in soul. Perhaps this is because when I heard her on the radio she was primarily an interpreter, as opposed to a singer-songwriter. Almost invariably, I prefer the original version, even if technically inferior. This has prevented me from buying her albums and listening to the less commercial album cuts, though I did borrow her What's New album to listen to her performing the old pop standards, which I think better suits her singing.

my fave female voice of the 70's. now i hafta listen to 'someone to lay down beside me" but give her album heart like a wheel a spin or two. it may alter your impressions...
