Son has been bitten by Di2
On a business trip during down time my boy rented a Cannondale Synapse with Di2. Says he can't go back to wired shifting. Also commented that the Synapse rides like a Caddy. He races a Caad10 and is not familiar with the endurance geometry ride quality.

I love my Suntour and Campy bar end shifters, I don't love my Simplex and Campy down tube shifters, I like my 105 STI brifters, but I REALLY love my Ultegra Di2! 👍👍👍

Fill the dump truck with cash and head to a local bike shop. Then dump the cash out and go back to the bank and load up the dump truck with cash and head back to the bike shop.
Its gonna be an expensive ride.

Someone on these forums got a Di2 version of his bike for $250 more than the mechanical version.
It isn't as expensive as people think.

sram forced groupset(i think Caad10 equipped) retail $850 range - shimano ultegra Di2 groupset retail $1300 range
so for a difference of $450 you can have di2 ultegra groupset. I don't think you'll need two dumptrucks (so dramatic) to pay for that.
I love my di2 bike and it is consistently the same every time I ride it. also I love my 105 equipped bike and for that matter I love all my bikes.

is the bite contagious?
I've been holding back for an unwired solution to surface, mature and trickle down to Force, Athena, 105.
Until then, I got enough variety.
But the attraction is strong in the marketplace.
Easy to understand.

You forgot the qualifier... "for the same groupset". Tiagra mech is nowhere near only $600 less than Ultegra Di2 (which is still the lowest level available I think).

Yes, for the same groupset. Apples to apples.
You gotta be in the Ultegra league to play.

I told him to wait for wireless to come out. Nuts to the wires when a wireless option will be here soon.
When Campagnolo goes wireless, I will finally make the jump to "indexed" shifting.

I'll join the troll: Some of us have truckloads of cash to spare.
On a serious note...When I had my custom frame built four years ago I didn't go with Di2 because of the added cost. The frame was expensive enough, and I wanted to strike a balance so I went with DA 9000. When wireless comes out I may switch over.

The Di2 porting and extra cost of the Di2 components comes to about $1200 (vs a frame built for mechanical shifting and appropriate groupset); that's about two days' earnings in my household, which I would hardly call a "truckload" of cash. (Not talking to you, indy, but to Rajflyboy. I would've made a different decision four years ago.)

Is there a vaccine? Can it be administered after infection?

after several thousand miles it still shifts exactly the same as when I first rode it, even after replacing chain and cassette. In my experience my mechanical shifters and brakes (my di2 has hydraulic disc) will need adjusting from time to time and cables replaced periodically due to stretch and wear.

I picked up a Di2 Domane in 2016 when it was heavily discounted on a close-out. Kind of sorry that I did because before that I was perfectly happy with my standard Ultegra groupset. Fast forward to 2019 and I wanted to get a disc equipped roadie. I only looked at Di2 equipped bikes because I just couldn't see myself going back to a cable actuated drivetrain if i didn't have to. Unfortunately I had to suck it up and pay the premium.

I work on every kind of bike on the road for my job--having worked on both di2 and all of the current Shimano mechanical groups I don't see the appeal in electronic. If Shimano really wants the electronic stuff to conquer the world they shouldn't have made the 7000/8000/9000 groups shift so well!

I don’t care if you make 5 million a year. 1300 for bicycle shifting in a bike build is outrageous and unnecessary. A lot of nice road and gravel complete bicycles out there for less than 1300. DI2 isn’t going to make the average rider faster on the bike.
Maybe in a a few years that DI2 stuff will become cheap enough for a reasonable purchase.
