First bicycle ride of the year!
Distance: 14.52 km
Elevation: 65 m
Moving Time: 1:00:17
Elapsed Time: 1:09:33
Speed: Avg: 14.5 km/h | Max: 19.4 km/h
January 2
Distance: 50.90km
Elevation: 334m
Moving Time: 2:49:36
Elapsed Time: 3:07:26
Speed: Avg: 18.0km/h } Max: 45.7km/h
This is the first 50 km bicycle ride we have done since before Rowan's accident! It was a bit of a challenge because of 28 km/h to 40 km/h wind. My legs weren't happy on the way out!
A vegetation fire started up about when we left and the road we used on the way back was closed for a bit. But when we got back to that point, they'd got it under control and had opened the road. Those things move fast!
January 3
Distance: 22.03km
Elevation: 163m
Moving Time: 1:19:57
Elapsed Time: 1:22:26
Speed: Avg: 16.5km/h | Max: 39.2km/h
Warm day ... not a bad ride on the way out, a little bit challenging with the wind on the way back.
January 4
Distance: 13.02km
Elevation: 50m
Moving Time: 48:22
Elapsed Time: 50:12
Speed: Avg: 16.2km/h | Max: 27.7km/h
Windy and smokey ride just to get us to 100 km in the first four days of the year!!

43 miles today SOLO.
As you can see I am not one of those, "do my gloves match my tires and shoestrings?" type of guys. I just get on my bike and ride.
Perfect jersey to fit the bill today once I realized the headwind was kicking up both directions.

Sixty mile week, with today's shop ride heading out in low 40's temps that eventually warmed into the 60's. Over the hill to the beach and back for nearly 5K of climbing.

I rode 15 miles on my ItalVega to my shop under sunny So Cal skies and got my new(to me) Medici. I then rode a few miles to my local bike shop to have the chain replaced. After that I returned to my shop to retrieve the ItalVega for my return home . 36.5 miles and no head wind , for once. Lately every weekend I have been getting headwind when pedaling home . Usually at least 15 miles worth!

No Jan 1st ride. Visiting parents. But road the 2nd, 3rd and today.
1/2 - Guess it may not count but mountain bike 2-1/2 hours for 20 miles off road at Beaver Dam Park. ONe end and back.
1/3 - 1:12 for 21.16 miles around Gloucester on my normal route.
1/5 - 2:24 for 40.42 miles on my modified Moton Center loop to the York River. Windy and 43 to 39 F. Bu the Pearly's and wind proof covers kept my toes warm.

Met and beat my goal for 2019 with my final ride of the year on Dec 31, riding 23 miles of my usual workout route averaging 17 mph without feeling exhausted at the end. For a couple of years I'd struggled to do better than 16 mph on that route, but toward the end of the year made some changes to my diet, conditioning, bike fit and pedaling (slower cadence, bigger gears) and got consistently stronger by November.
Did a 28 mile casual ride with friends on Jan 1, 2020, meeting for dinner at the midway point. Hot pho on a chilly evening, very good.
Some aero bar practice on Jan 2 on the indoor trainer. Finally found a setup I might be able to handle, switching from old school Scott to newer Profile aero bars. The Profile bars are longer and support my elbows better, much less strain on my neck and shoulders. Might try 'em outdoors this week if the wind calms down a bit. I'm still not confident on aero bars in the wind.
27 miles on Jan 3, the usual workout route. Felt like I was loafing but was still faster than usual.
Alas, the cold dry air keeps giving my sinuses fits and I had to rest Saturday and Sunday with sinus headaches and dizziness from congestion. Just as well, the bike I rode most of 2019 really needs an overhaul so it's partially disassembled on the workstand now. Just noticed the headset and fork were binding since I last checked in August after replacing the stem.

There's really only one big fire in the SE corner of the mainland, and a few others dotted around. There are two in Tassie right now, but not close to the Hobart area.

2x20's on Saturday. Just me and my discomfort in the fog.
Team base ride on Sunday. 60-ish miles (100km) with friends in the sun. Good times.

Just and easy 20 on Sunday. I wore my Fat Bastard jersey giving an opening for others to crack some jokes. But nobody called me a fat bastard.
I'm only 6/1 and 260 so I am too fat to race Froome!

I had a ton of time off from work and of course the weather did not want to cooperate, so I only got one ride in. New Years' Day did a couple of mile walk in the woods. Midway through there was a loud crash next to the trail. Scared the crap out of me. Turned out to be a deer that was bounding off into the woods. Friday did a 40 mile ride in the Ocala Nat. Forest. Nice day mild temps and not too windy. Picture is my turn around point at Wildcat Lake.
