I have 3 different bikes. I commute voluntarily few times per week because I enjoy it, I also ride recreationally, mountain biking, gravel, road....Here is a list of things I don't do: I don't use clipless I prefer platforms. I like both drop bars and flat bars. I don't shave my legs or any other body parts. I don't race. I don't use strava. I don't own any spandex costumes. I don't use carbon bikes I prefer steel and aluminium. I run errands and do some shopping on my bike sometimes. The most miles that I've ever ridden in one year was about 15 000 miles.... Am I a cyclist ??….I'll let you be the judge.
You've got bikes that you ride because you want to, you (presumably) lube the chain and air up the tires. You make time to ride.
You literally fit my definition perfectly.
Are you offended by that?

The only objective of threads like this is to divide a population into two groups, one of which the OP has judged and found wanting.

How many pages before this thread turns into a ping pong exchange of insults and then gets locked? I’m guessing 6 pages.

Using a bicycle as a conveyance does, in fact, instantly make you a cyclist.

Just as walking instantly makes you pedestrian.

Does it make you a hiker, free runner (parkourist), race walker, ministry of silly walker, or Walker Texas Ranger?
I'm sure you see the difference now.
I used to ride with a guy who consistently walked sub 6 minute miles. He eventually got to the Olympics. No idea how he did.

Runners, joggers, power walkers, and hikers are all subcategories of pedestrian. Just as racers, commuters, enthusiasts, tourists and bikepackers are all subcategories of cyclist.

And I'm not fast enough to race.
It's kind of a crisis.

You should have heard what I was calling myself a couple weeks ago when I realized that I had set myself up to ride the return 50 miles of a century in 95 degree heat and a strong headwind.

Awesome and Awful technically mean the same thing, yet one is used in a positive way and the other in a negative way.

I thought that only racers deserve to be called cyclists and all other subcategories are to be referred to as a person on a bike or bike rider.
