Schwinn 55/56 Motorcycle help
It wont let me post pictures yet. However I purchased this "bike" at an auction with the only description saying Antique Schwinn Motorcycle. i discovered it has a Lauson engine and is sitting on Schwinn Typhoon Cord tires. I wish there was a way I could show the pictures. Can any body help me find out more information on it or direct me where to go. Thx

Thirteen year old me rode one with the Whizzer motor. Noisy and oily but a lot of fun!

Another good resource for info on these types of bikes is The Classic and Antique Bicycle Exchange (AKA: the CABE):

55/56 Schwinn Motorcycle
I purchased this "bike" at an auction with the only description saying Antique Schwinn Motorcycle. I discovered it has a Lauson "RL-393 B"engine and is sitting on Schwinn Typhoon Cord tires 26x2.125. Got it running easily. Still needs some work to get it fully functional but not a ton. Trying to find a couple new spokes or a whole new set. 270mm or 10 5/8 but having trouble locating some without paying a crazy amount.

I would love to see pics of this. A friend recently bought something like this and could use some pics and info.

What a beauty you have there! I have a friend that is going to enjoy seeing your Schwinn. My friend put a Wizzer on his, I know this sounds weird, Schwinn stationary bike conversion.
Thank you for posting.

That flat-bar improvised hanger for the (chain cover / housing?) is a simple but effective solution. ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I'm not a Schwinn guy, is this an aftermarket conversion, or did they actually make these? And is it just me, or was the frame originally blue, and it's showing through where the top tube meets the down tube?

Cool stuff! I expected to be an old gBike, but it’s an actual small displacement motorcycle made with some Schwinn affiliation. Looks nice!
Wish I could help. The only shop around here that was around back then and was very helpful when I was into rehabbing 1960s Bridgestone motorcycles turned into the owner’s museum about a decade ago and has had for sale signs up for the last two years.
