rickpaulos, you wouldn't happen to have any pictures of your Borthwick would you? I lived in Marshalltown Iowa where Gordon lived and he built me a single which was frame 5 or 6 I believe. Always wished we would have had him build us a tandem. He was such a gentlemen, I enjoyed ride with the Iowa River Valley Bike Club in the early 80's. You always had a couple of Borthwick tandems. The serial number is interesting 483 K18 3457. K could be the first letter of the owners last name.the rest could be a social security number. 483 prefixs were assigned to births in this area. I find this potentially humorous given the owner sued the feds claiming income taxes are illegal.

This was an impulse auction purchase. I found the owners name on it as I was loading it in my car. Built for a guy from the Quad Cities who has spent time in the slammer for fraud and tax evasion.

Beginning Tandem Age: 81
Current Tandem Age: 89 (we obviously haven't been at it long, but keep wondering why we didn't start sooner!)
Christmas day ride, 2020.
We've both ridden singles for many years and thought there was no way we'd survive tandem riding, but we surprisingly have very similar riding styles, so it worked out very well for us (plus, I don't get ditched anymore when we ride together).

Begin - 122
Now - 142
We are presently waiting on a motor for our new pedal assist e-tandem with S&S couplers. We are not getting antsy about it considering present weather conditions.

I'm waiting for that motor too. Right now we have a demo motor, a Steps 6100. But to be truthful, that motor is already sufficient and fun. I truthfully cannot imagine how it will be with more power.

Tandem age
I've learned a new term here, "tandem age" which I understand to mean the sum of the ages of the Captain and the Stoker. I also gather that the average tandem age of our members who post here is over 100. The amount of knowledge and experience out there is huge. I could be wrong but hey, let's find out? We could even get some idea of our history if we ask, what was your beginning Tandem Age (when you started with your first tandem) and your current Tandem Age. I don't know about awarding prizes, but holiday cheer to everyone. I'll start:
Beginning Tandem Age: 67
Current Tandem Age: 129
Beginning Tandem Age: 67
Current Tandem Age: 129
Beginning Tandem Age: 94
Current Tandem Age: 140
