A lot depends on whether you want more tennis or more slide in cycling.
Specialized, and probably others, have made walkable touring shoes that are semi rigid and have a smooth rubber sole. The two I have used are their Sonoma and Elite Touring. Both are discontinued, but can be found on eBay, from time to time depending on size.
Since I ride clips and straps without the cleats (these days), I am very aware of being able to flip the pedal and slide the shoe into the pedal; more importantly quickly sliding out at a stop. These do that quite well, but occasionally will slip on a poorly timed shift but no real issues.
That said, I wouldn’t play tennis in them. They are not that flexible. So if you are looking to ride and then walk for hours, maybe not the best choice. Also, not something I would use with platform pedals.

I checked, and apparently the Gazelles are fine with being used with clips and straps. ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

get the nike "mcenroe". you can be stylishly edgy at the bike shop, cursing your way riding the bike path, through traffic, or simply stopping to glare at pedestrians. and, no one will mess with you at the trailside cafes

Went to the mall today and found these. They work great and are cheaper than the Sambas. Nike Court Legacy

I've got 4E duck feet, so I took a 32 grit sander to a pair of New Balance cross trainers and removed any of the sole overhang. Their kind of flexible. I tried making an insole from thin cutting board material but that ended up giving me worse hot foot. I put smart foot insoles in and mostly use them with flats, but they worked pretty good with MKS GR-10 pedals and straps. Next time around I'll use black leather New Balances and a more ridged insole.

+1! on bark eater's post. I took a utility knife and belt sander to my 4E width NB trainers, put in memory foam inserts and get in and out of the more tightly cinched clips easily without the pesky rubber friction on the leather straps. It's tough to find the wider shoes and when I do I get several pairs to make sure my feet are happy for a while. After those wear out they've usually discontinued that model, sometimes aftermarket sellers have them but the search is a PITA. Maybe TMI but it's because I have weird feet with abnormal bone growth only around my big toe joints. I've had minor surgery to have it cut and filed off but it slowly grows back
