Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Paying customers go to the bike shop. People that come to my house get to meet Benson. That's beneficial.

The first bar tape tutorial I had was printed on the back of a Cinelli bar tape box.

Tuesday ride was 45+ miles and 6 riders. Nice day but windy on the way back, windy enough so we couldn't talk when up to speed. My friend had trouble with his Speedplay cleat on the last little climb. He says they don't make the cleats anymore and he has the pedals on several bikes.

I rotate two chains, too. For me, the big attraction to waxing is not having to clean black gunk off of my drivetrain, which makes waxing a time (and frustration) saver for me.
I am shocked. Shocked! You go to all that(perceived) trouble to wax your chains, for 400 miles?

If they do I'm sure they are high in sodium. Kudos on quietly eclipsing 41,000 posts. Prolific.

It's less than 5 minutes of hands-on time, over the course of an hour, to wax two chains and there's no other drivetrain lubing or cleaning to speak of.

It takes no time at all. I hate cleaning my drive train and with wax there is no need to clean. It does require a wipe to get the wax off the chain stay.

Where do you ride on Tuesdays? If the pace is not too fast I would love to join a ride.

I turn on the crockpot, set the timer on my watch while I do other things. After the watch goes off, I throw my chain in, which gets a quick wipe before tossing it in. set the watch for 20 minutes, and go have a cup of coffee or something. When the watch goes off again, I hang the chain over the crockpot, let it drip and wipe it down, put it on the bike hot, and go about my day.

Clean **** rocks.

Clean **** rocks.
For me, Chain #1 is in the cold pot when I turn it on. Come back in an hour when it's up to temp, shish it, hang it, pop in Chain #2, come back 10 minutes later when it's up to temp, swish it, hang it. Chains get loosened over a dowel before being popped back on the bike.

There's no cleaning before it goes into the crockpot? You're re-using the quick links? I don't have a crockpot or any idea about where to get one. They aren't a thing here. Same for wax.

No. Why? It's not an oil-based wet lube that attracts gunk.

Nothing to clean, and I use quick links over and over again.

So the wax just wears off and leaves the chain dry?

Usually one of three options. If it's windy we start at the 210 and the 2 and go east to Monrovia for pizza. Today we started at my friend's house in Canyon Country and rode to Acton and back. Sometimes we start at the train station in Chatsworth and go to Westlake Village.
It's a social, fun pace and we don't drop anyone.
Remind me next Sunday or Monday and I'll tell you where and when. You could also join some club rides if you're in to that sort of thing. sfvbc.org
