The one phrantic linked. I don't have that, I just use needle nose pliers and pull them into the plastic thing. It shouldn't be very tight, you might be able to unscrew it with your fingers.

today was so nasty and I can some it up with a quick experience.
Stopped to check a street sign. In the 2 seconds I stopped, a bead of sweat dripped from my head down my neck, down my spine, right between my two cheeks.

I generally wipe everything clean and pack grease everywhere. In the head tube, inside and out of the bearings, races, steer tube etc. Once its reassembled I wipe off excess. Grease keeps sweat and water from entering and lubes things obviously. More won't hurt.
