Where are the horrible predictions?
Two ridiculous darts thrown at the wall for the longshot breakaway win: Majka and Simmons.
For my team, I'd like to see Bouchard and Martin score some mountain points. They're a little further back than Padun so maybe. But I picked them so maybe not.
Bardet is a lot further back, has a clear run at it, but might be a little banged up still. Perhaps he'll get a shot at some later stages.

Dang it, too bad about Valverde. Legend. He was riding so well. Hope he's riding again real soon.

polanc was my last guy out, kron was my last guy in. polanc usually turns in a competitive vuelta and is doing just that so far.

Vaughters and I are gonna have a quick chat about vaccinating EFs main GC guy right before the Vuelta ... I mean really? Super disappointing! However that silver lining of Großschatner is making up for it. Almost made it out of the basement but thank goodness Molano was relegated! ¡Más Tapas por favor!

I just looked at the cycling moles prediction for stage 9. I would love to see his trio of breakaway picks -- Bouchard, Bagioli, Maritin -- round out the podium. It would make up for him putting a fork in Landa.
Gotta say Kron and Polanc weren't even on my radar.

first rest day update!
we're approx 43% of the way thru the vuelta with several tiers developing in the league...
there's the top tier with Aarhus, Wheelsuckers and the bounty, then the second tier with
five teams closely bunched together...then there's the short bus comprised of four teams.
yours truly is currently driving the short bus. shocker.
everyone has roglic except yours truly. there are a couple of name riders such as carthy and valverde now out of the race.
it would get really interesting if roglic were to abandon/crash out, etc before stage 15 or so...not hoping or wishing, just saying.
looks like movistar, bahrain and/or ineos need to tag team roglic (and kuss) with attacks/breakaways in this second phase of the vuelta.
easier said than done but those three teams have some power and a few riders high up on the gc. mas has only lost 10 seconds
to roglic since the stage one itt (unsure how many of those-if any-are bonus seconds). let's see if mas and miggylo can hang tuff
in act two.

Bike porn. Stop. Don't.
Let's see you two pull a Lachlan Morton run in a future grand tour, on those magnificent steel frames. Aru will have some time on his hands. Maybe he'll join you.
If it were me, I'd lean to joining the tifosi but I know ooga-booga has a deep fondness for the vuelta. Which GT is your pick, USAZorro ?
Want some inspiration? I met this guy when he was cycling around Africa. Later, he rode the referee's whistle from Twickenham to Tokyo for the start of the rugby world cup. He's up to something else again.

Besides, I took two years a French in High School, and for some reason when I greet native Spanish speakers with 'Tu ne habla Espanol', I only get strange looks. My Italian is even more limited. Beyond El Pirata, Il Falco and Super Mario, all I know is belissima and grazie, so... Parlez-vous Francaise et Chevrolet Coupe, it would be.

That 31st guy in the >30-not-a-breakaway cost me and probably a bunch of you some breakaway points.
Storer picked by 3.4% of teams delivering 505 points for V$6 seems to be the bargain so far.
Mas picked by 21.5% of the general population is way over-represented in our little league where he is on 7 of 12 teams. Including 5 of the top 7. Mas o menos indeed.

Heartbreaking to see Cort get caught 300m from the line...and then grind to almost a complete halt. If only he knew that he was on my team and would have scored me big points if he had just tried a little bit harder! Can someone get a message to him for next time? Thankfully Mas and Roglic drove me up the standings a bit with their efforts!

Divergent topic... am I the only one who has more difficulty understanding what Storer says in a postrace interview than I do understanding any of the South American, Spanish or Slovenian riders?

Checking in on the proceedings between walking the dogs and stumbling through some work. It's another scorcher with no break 60+ km into things. There's going to be some tired boys again. The riders are making these stages hard, probably as the devious coursemeister intended.

If Cort doesn't stay away again and Roglic doesn't crash into him, maybe Jakobsen will grab me a few more points relative to the competition. I need mas from him porque yo no tengo Mas.
My only hopes are a week three mountain point renaissance from Bouchard and Martin, Mikel Lazarus Landa stage wins, or Grošchartner accidentally, unintentionally, and undetectably having a heaping helping of Carne a la Contador and washing it down with a transfusion of Vino, all bought and paid for by the Floyd Fairness Fund. None of that is likely, and all (except maybe the latter) is preferable to Mas going off the course. Therefore, I resign myself to another top of the bell curve VG performance.
