I do consider it to be the epitome of a sensible bike for somebody who isn't riding seriously but would nonetheless like to be able to handle any eventuality.

I've been looking at the pics in this thread and wondering what it is that makes a city bike an Italian city bike? Is it the size? The colors? The parts? The manubrio condorino certainly is very Italian, but as has been pointed out, there are not many to be seen here.

Here's a French one for comparison, and it manages very well to not look Italian:

I'd suggest its a bike made and ridden in Italy...

Here's an example of an early 80's Bottechia found on eBay's Italian version of Craigslist (kijiji.it). I'm sure it's a gaspipe frame, but it has some chrome on lugs and stays. Here's a Legnano from the same site. Again, some chrome where you wouldn't see it on English or American three-speeds. Both have those condorino bars which I personally find quite lovely. It just seems to me that these bikes are more elegant than an old Schwinn Speedster or Racer (which, I freely admit, would probably do the job just as well).

Seller mentions that the chainguard was used with the push rod simplex FD. The bracket in the pictures looks like the guard may mount to the Simplex FD directly. Anyone know if that's the case?

Doesn't look like what was typical with the Simplex. But never say never.

Well I took my city style zeus out for a maiden voyage, and the ride is "relaxed". I felt no urge to push the pace, just sat up and enjoyed the view. Amazing how a different style of handlebar will do that - it is a racing frame after all.

I noticed a similar situation in Ireland except most of the bikes there were mountain bikes. That surprised me because nobody seemed to using them for trail riding, just riding around town.
