December 2021 100+ Miles/km Thread
Haven’t seen hide nor hat of MattTheHat lately, hope he’s doing OK. So I’ll get this month’s 100 mi/km thread started right here and now. Well, for me it’ll be tomorrow because I didn’t get any riding in today, but am optimistic about tomorrow and Friday. This morning looked cold, foggy, and wet, what would be considered a nice day in Scotland, but L.A., not so much. So I drove the 13 miles East to work, and by noon it was sunny and warm there.
As for November, no, I didn’t get to 500 liked I’d considered in last month’s waning days, but I’m happy with the 440 I completed.
This month is going to be a little busy, so I don’t think even 400 is in the cards, so I’m going to say 350.
MTD: 0.0
Monthly Goal: 350 miles

I'm going to try for 400 this month. I'll be off the bike for about ten days, so I'm not sure I'll make it.
I hope everyone has had a good year riding. I've read of a couple of health issues, which is a bummer. Lot's of miles logged in these threads in 2021! Well done everyone!

34.6? Well that's a fine start. 2 days in and I'm still holding steady at 0. Fully intended to get up and ride in to work this morning, but then fully concluded at 5:30 am that it wasn't going to happen. Tomorrow's another day.

Barely made it over 200 in November. I'm going to try for 150 in December, recognizing there is a good chance ice/snow is going to slow things down before January. Although wore shorts again tonight.

December to date 34 miles
2021 to date: 4316.6 miles
2021 Goal: 5000 miles
I'm probably not going to make my goal . But, to be fair I've raised my goal several times during the year (3000, to 4000, to 5000 miles) when it became apparent that at my pace I was going to exceed those goals. So, why NOT make it bit more challenging? Most weeks I average about 100 miles. But it seems like there's always some weeks where I get zero or very little mileage in due to weather or I'm just unable to ride for whatever reason. I'm still shooting for 5000 miles and we'll just see how far I can get. It's all good, though! Very happy to get out and ride.

Tonight I crashed.
There is a segment of the MUP I ride where they repaved this year, but haven't finished. So on my outbound ride there is a 2-inch drop. I avoid it by riding around it on the shoulder, and then rejoining the MUP on the older pavement. The shoulder and the old pavement are even, so the transition is easy. Tonight in the dark (despite my headlight) I didn't realize that yesterday they completed the paving. So when I went to transition back to what had been the old pavement, I hit the edge of the new pavement. Front wheel washed out and I got sent flying at about 15 mph. Landed on my right upper chest/shoulder, and the right side of my head hit the pavement hard.
I lay there trying to gather myself, and figuring how to get to where my wife could pick me up (nearest road to this part of the MUP is at least a half mile away). I also paused my GPS. When I got up I realized I wasn't really hurt, and once I got the chain back on the bike I realized it was fine too. I was only 4 miles into a 15 mile ride, but I decided to keep going and finish.
Got home without further incident. Head is OK, neck is a little sore. And my right arm and upper chest are going to be pretty sore tomorrow. My helmet is a styrofoam type made by Specialized. The foam seems fine, no cracks or anything. But should I replace it because of the impact? I'm thinking of upgrading to a Bontranger WaveCel.
Monthly Goal: 150
12/2: 16.4
12/4: 15.7
MTD: 32.1
YTD: 1460.9

My monthly goal is 300 and December is no exception, so far 30/300 completed. Might be a tough month to meet any goals with travel and Christmas.. let the games begin..

Finally on the board. A brisk commute and I got to race a kid on an electric scooter (and beat him handily, I might add). He might not have known we were racing.

Sorry you crashed, but glad you and the bike weren't hurt any worse. I hope you make a full and speedy recovery.

Thanks for the well wishes! My right arm is a bit sore if I try to lift it over my head, but otherwise I lucked out and everything seems good. No pain when riding.

Woo-hoo! Hit 1,500 miles for the year. Never imagined I would do that when I started riding in May. Long term weather forecast for the month looks good. It was snowing when I got back from my ride on 12/8, but we didn't get much and now the pavement is dry. Starting to think I will be able to do 200 miles this month, but we'll see.

Goal for December is 83 miles
12/9 - 5 miles
12/10 - 20 miles
12/11 - 21
MTD: 46 miles
I'm back from my injury again, but it's only indoor riding for now. About 6 weeks ago the doctor said that I could put 100 lbs load on my left leg. I have been calling my doctor the last couple of days to see if I can ride my bike indoors on the trainer, he said that I could but to be careful, we don't want to damage the leg again. I think that he is tired of cutting into the same piece of meat. He has cut into this so many times he should put a zipper on my leg, it does look like a zipper on my leg.
So, I need 83 miles to get to 2500 miles for the year.

It’s been almost a month since I’ve ridden .
today it’s 59 degrees and sunny.
So , I took the single speed mountain bike out for a neighborhood spin .
2.2 miles. my normal winter time ride . I didn’t want to over do it . I’m still having back and ab pain . I’m hoping riding will help both .
