I've been doing really well on Ebay, picking up bits for the Litespeed Interim Build #2. Today, the 7410 chanrings listed as "low mileage" arrived and yes they absolutely ARE low mileage! The teeth are still shiny. And the FD that I was afraid was scratched up, but it was the cheapest complete example on Ebay - the pictures made it look FAR worse than it really is. I'm getting really stoked! Just cable stops, cables, and the extra crank bolt (7410 cranks apparently came with Titanium crank arm fixing bolts. Who knew?)
I contacted my LBS, and he'll be happy to swap the BBs "while you wait", so the stars are all aligning.....

When I took it apart the top bearing had marks on the outside of the bearing case on one side. This, I believe is why it always seems to have play. Postive it has been this way since I bought the bike.
The play isn’t crazy. If I hold the front brake and rock the bike there’s a clicking/ popping noise coming from the head set. Not sure if new bearings would fix the problem, or if there is something wrong with the head tube.

Last year when I first got the revolt I went out for a ride where the wind chill was like 10. I was fine until about the last 10 miles of a 45 mile ride. Water froze, feet were numb and really struggled. Ended up being really dehydrated and had to go to the emergent care to get an IV- I couldn’t keep anything down.

damn.
My winter rides I don’t typically hydrate much. Kind of hard to drink through a face mask, when it’s super cold I don’t want to pull it down for it will be that much colder when I put it back on.
You have a valid excuse.

When I've seen the bearings go bad the steering feels rough, like it's "indexing" when you turn the bar.
I had a problem where the headset adjustment loosened up a bit after long rides. Turned out the expander was loose inside the steer tube.

Does the clunking and play go away when you tighten the headset? If you can't adjust out the play something is wrong and I would take the fork out and check it over. I've heard some bikes come with crappy bearings.

tightening does not make the clunking go away. I’ll take another look at it when I get home. I might have to just take it to the shop. I’ve never had that bike do a complete tear down.
