In addition to his wealth of knowledge, he was also just a decent good hearted person. And funny to boot. I miss him. Jim

14 years ago. It doesn’t seem like it was that long ago that we lost him. 😢

What a resource to the bicycling world. His legacy lives on in the valuable information he gave us, but also this, my favorite...

Seems like yesterday, I was new here and Sheldon had replied to answer a question I had posted. He was very clear, yet polite and warm. Made me a follower of his website for good.

R.I.P. Sheldon, ride long

Bill

Ahead of his time.
I like the plan for a 1/4 inch pitch chain drivetrain. Nanodrive. 20 gears in the back! It doesn't seem that excessive now.

Because of him, I have a Raleigh Twenty. I know what the Gear Inches are on my bicycles or what they will be on a yet un-purchased bike. Probably 90% of what I know, I learned from he.

Thank you Sheldon Brown

I remember years ago getting a bike in a box that came from his area and it was an old CILO frame and I just thought maybe it is possible his hands might have touched it at some point and it filled me with joy. Never was able to verify nor really cared to but it was just a possibility and that was enough. I sold the bike because I wasn't riding it and didn't finish the build but I sold it to a friend who is appreciating it.

Sheldon is just such a legend, I still frequently quote him when talking saddles (and sometimes other things).

I need to buy some but Scrodzilla sells these little bad bois in memorium to him (I know others sold them at some point as well but I think he is the only active one I know):

Thanks to Sheldon I just today separated a small handful of French threaded Maillard freewheels from standard threaded Maillard freewheels using a English threaded bottom bracket cup at the Co-Op I manage.

I also discovered a treasure trove of 10mm pitch Dura-Ace fixed cogs that thanks to Sheldon I knew we're not to be confused with conventional 12.7mm (1/2 inch pitch) standard cogs. I set them aside.

Who knows what trouble was avoided thanks to his knowledge...& that's just today!

May the tail-winds always be at Sheldon's back. I owe him, Harris Cyclery, & all those maintaining his legacy a great deal.

As my signature states, I may have been the last guy he emailed. He replied to an email late in the afternoon on a Saturday no less. Nice man!
