Can you guys recommend a Top Pull 2x Road Shimano FD?
Hi everyone,
I'm planning to change parts on my bike. And my frame has a top pull for its FD. Im not sure which FDs are top pull since most of the ones in the market right now are almost always down pull.
Can anyone suggest a 2x Shimano Road FD that happens to be a top pull?
I hope this thread reaches people.
Thank you in advance.

There are no alternatives road top pull FD.
You can convert down pull road FD to top pull by using this adapter:
ProblemSolvers Cross Clamp
You can modify some top pull mtb fd to be compatible with road pull,
but it will require more work to make it compatible with road crankset

Ahhhh I see. I am currently using a 3x7 Drivetrain with Micronew STIs.
Well I've been looking to use a 50-34 crankset but my frame is limited to a Top Pull, but since you said all Road FDs are only down pull, I would resort to a different approach instead, or buy a different frame but thats not something I am considering as of the moment.
I'm thinking now, that I would instead do a 48-36T with a 3x MTB Derailleur (Im thinking of the Altus MD-370, Max is 48T, with a difference of 12T from the Middle and Big chainring).
The next problem that I see is, should I keep the current 3x FD shifter, or if I switch to a 2x FD shifter, will it have a different pull ratio than the original 3x? Since the FD is a 3x after all.

My Trek 970 has a bottom pull used as a top pull set up with a cable stop in the cable connection and the inner cable fixed. The housing actually moves the FD.

I have posted here before about the Salsa Fargo Tiagra because it uses Tiagra road shifter with a Deore FD.
I have not tried this but it appears the new Shimano (r2000, r3000, r4700) road FD pull might be compatible with mtb FD’s.
I haven’t seen anything published by Shimano, but if an OEM is using this setup it seems like it might work.
If this is correct it solves your top pull problem, but opens up another. Running a 50t chainring might be an issue for a mtb FD.
And it won’t work with Micronee shifters.
The other downside is being the guinea pig and buying the components and having it not work.

Hello good Sir,
Would you mind sharing how were you able to achieve that setup?
I don't seem to understand how to get the inner cable fixed elsewhere.

Some of the big online dealers will ship globally, but Shimano has tried to stifle shipping at least from Europe to the USA, but it may still work going elsewhere.
Try Ribble, Wiggle, Merlin, etc.
I have a cable reversing pulley on one bike. It works well.
I like that cable housing solution. Suntour used to do something similar with some of their bottom pull derailleurs. Maybe it was on their reverse pull front derailleurs that sprung out, and the cable pulled the derailleur to the smaller sprockets.

Those ancient Suntour derailleurs would have the cable stop at the derailleur that you need. And, they might be able to be modified to work as top pull.
As far as the cable binder bolt at the bottom bracket, it looks like it was a braze-on at the bottom bracket above. However, most bottom bracket shells should be thick enough to drill and tap for the binder bolt.

Honestly your best bet is a pulley as mentioned earlier
