Actually, I never really was. Just going for the irony. 'Tis better to have been hip and lost it than never to have been hip at all.

A Vanagon wasn't hip. A Microbus, OTOH.......

Oh I imagine the Vanagon is a superior vehicle in every respect. But the Bus was hip.

Daddy's special - $1
I have a bike for sale. It's a little dirty and can't be taken for a test ride on account that it needs new tires. I have an idea--how about you have your man-child son break a part off while attempting to test it and then tell me you'll be back for it after I get it running. And then after several hours I'll tell you it's ready and it would just be so cool if you lied and told me you went with another bike. So instead of just telling me you don't want it because your son broke it, you can just lie and waste my time. That would be super. Oh, and then call the 5-O on me because I opened your eyes and gave you a much needed reality check. Now wouldn't that be nice?bicycle frame material: scandium

https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/bi...461691274.htmlmiyata 310 bike. vintage chromoly steel frame. pretty light - $60 (Somerville)I think it was designed as a mid-high end racing bike in its day. A lot of weight-saving features such as hollowed out braking bar and trough on seat post.
Assuming that the seatpost and stem are free, this could clean up to a "not bad bike". My issue is with the sheer bull***** in the copy.
"I think it rides pretty smoothly for commuting"??
No one has been riding anywhere with that chain and freewheel combo (at least not smoothly)
and
"A lot of weight-saving features such as hollowed out braking bar and trough on seat post"?
Seriously?

Here's a post of a similar bike
John's Bicycle Restorations: 1983 Miyata 310 Restoration & Upgrade - The Ultimate Sports Touring Build
The drive chain has been converted to single speed. I think it rides pretty smoothly for commuting.
It has splash guard for front wheel.
I recently installed new handle bar tape and braking pad

I loved my orange air-cooled Vanagon. What a great all-purpose vehicle. Other than the common burnt valves and rocker tube leaks and poor heating and A/C, it was perfect.

LOL! I owned one back in the 90s as a Kinderwagen. Wife called it the Blue Devil. Ours was water-cooled and auto trans. After sorting out the coolant sensors and rotted sheet metal water cooling tubes, the trans went. I had it rebuilt but it was never right so we sold it. Volks fan that I am, I really liked it.

Well I wanted to get back to our regularly-scheduled wackiness, but I went back two weeks on the local CL, and nothing wacky enough to post (which is slightly wacky in itself....).

First the stickers fade and then you have to guess what exactly you have.
To be fair, I believe it's touring frame butttttt................
Seller says it's "IN PERFECT WORKING CONDITION" even though you can't shift without shifters, can't brake without hooked up cables, etc.
But, at the end of the day? It is a MIVADO

Not sure what to make of this one; it looks like a DIY low profile frame that someone's built.

The Titan stem needs to be rechromed, but from my limited experience, they are pretty hard to come by, so it might be worth it.

This just seems to appear to have seen zero maintenance in its lifetime and was ridden hard like it was stolen and put away wet..

Also, that bike is located very near me. I should go over there and pound the guy for letting it get in that condition.

Is that model actually made of titanium?
