No, it was factory spec. I found the Schwinn specs somewhere online when I had mine. They went to 126 mm in 1985. The red frame is 1984.

These specs don't show 120 mm spacing, but it does show an Ultra six freewheel as factory spec. Nice bike regardless.

Yes, those early Pelotons had 120 spacing and they were VERY adamant about retaining that size.
As I found out when we tried to insert a slightly more modern wheelset.
Lovely frames, though, would like to find a later 86 in the same size.

That’s interesting. Was that all Schwinns, or just this model? I would have thought that by the mid-80’s most higher end bikes were 126.

This may be my old bike. Peugeot recalled these Pechiny-process bikes after a few of the frames suffered separation of the bonding at the lugs. I joined the company at about that time and was in the NJ warehouse near a pile of the recalled bikes. I asked what I could do to get one of them and was told, "Promise me you'll never ride it." Found one in my size and dragged it home and did not ride it after I got it up and running. Later traded it to a guy in the Tidewater area. Mine was missing a letter or two from the seat tube stickers (Park stand, of course) and I recall putting a Peugeot bottle on it. I probably have a picture of mine somewhere.
